David Massey delivers the Punting Pointers for Saturday's racing at Southwell.
Racing Betting Tips: Saturday January 4
1pt win Monsieur Fantaisie in the 4.03 Southwell at 11/4 (Unibet, Hills, min 9/4)
1pt win Ormolulu in the 6.35 Southwell at 10/3 (Bet365, Hills, min 11/4)
4:03 Southwell
MONSIEUR FANTAISIE looks a blindingly obvious candidate for a poor Classified race in which only three of the twelve runners have actually won over seven furlongs.
Two starts on the Tapeta at southwell have seen him finish a length second over six furlongs and then, upped to seven furlongs in March, run out a length winner from Coconut Bay. He needed his first two starts of this winter but came right back to form at Wolverhampton last week when beaten half a length, arguably a touch unlucky not to win as the gaps didn’t come quick enough for Joanna Mason when she needed them, and he ran on strongly late. He can make amends today.
6:35 Southwell
Rebel Empire is turned out quickly again following his Lingfield romp four days ago, but the penalty that he carries for that now makes him no better off with ORMOLULU on their running here the time before when Ormolulu claimed Rebel Empire in the shadows of the post, and so it is hard to see why the latter should be twice the price today.
Ormolulu needs a good pace to run into to show his best form and he should get that here, with Antiphon likely to take up his usual front-running role and the excellent new-kid-on-the-block Warren Fentiman steals 7lb off his back, so there’s every reason to think another big run is on order tonight.
