2.30 Kempton

1
Edwardstone20
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-12| J: Tom Cannon| T: A King| OR:  163| CD
7/2

EDWARDSTONE is built to carry weight and seems at his best when asked to dominate lesser rivals, so is taken to give the weight away in the Desert Orchid. A genuine Grade 1 act on his day, he ran well in the Shloer when in need of the run and was still in with every chance when falling in the Tingle Creek. The race had yet to get going, but he was still travelling perfectly well when coming down. He’s best when ridden prominently and should get a nice lead from the out-of-form Editeur Du Gite here before taking over in the home straight.

3.08 Kempton

4
Slipway34
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-13| J: Ben Jones| T: B Pauling| OR:  134| CD
6/1

Frero Banbou won the Rehearsal Chase last time but he’s a moody sort who is far from certain to back that up, and the handicapper has taken drastic action in any case.

SLIPWAY has two ways of going but couldn’t have been much more impressive when winning over C&D here last March and is just 2lb higher now. He’s often tried at marathon distances but is yet to convince as a thorough stayer and it might be he’s a bit happier at shorter these days, having faded out of things on both starts this season. He’s on a good mark and can go close.

2
Iwilldoit314
Age: 11|  Weight: 11-13| J: Callum Pritchard(7)| T: S Thomas| OR:  147| CD
10/1

The one we like in the Welsh National is previous winner and last year’s third IWILLDOIT, who is effectively racing off a mark of 140 when the excellent Callum Pritchard’s claim is accounted for, and he’s not only 6lb lower in the official ratings than he was a year ago but won this race off a mark of 140 two seasons ago. Very lightly raced for his age, he showed in two subsequent starts last term that he’s as good as ever, albeit in need of a thorough test of stamina to show his best.
