Legends of War showed why he commanded such a lofty price tag in the sales ring as he turned the British Stallion Studs EBF Novice Stakes into a procession on his debut at Yarmouth.
Having cost owners Qatar Racing Limited 900,000 guineas at the breeze-ups, the son of Scat Daddy paid a small slice of it back when taking a giant step towards an outing at Royal Ascot with an emphatic success in the six-furlong prize.
One of a number of horses in with a chance at the two-furlong pole, the John Gosden-trained 2-1 chance quickly scorched clear under Oisin Murphy before crossing the line four lengths clear of favourite San Donato.
Gosden said: "He is a lovely horse and has done everything right at home. They've put this race on and we thought we would come here and support it. He will learn a lot from that, as he was a little green, but he came through well. It was a pretty decent race, I think. He is very relaxed at home and picks up well on the gallops. He is a pleasure to be around and has got a great mind on him for a horse that has had a breeze-up preparation.
"It is Scat Daddy's last crop, so when you find a good one they will be a collector's item."
