STORMY GIRL, the winner of a Listed fillies' event at Pontefract in August, looks surprisingly ignored in the betting for Thursday's British Stallion Studs EBF Premier Handicap at Newmarket.

The Rebecca Menzies-trained daughter of Night Of Thunder has, with the exception of one blowout at York, run consistently all season and, while obliged to concede plenty of weight all round in this first career attempt in handicap company, she may have a class edge.

Stormy Girl looks to have fully earned her current rating of 101 after two fourths behind Liberty Beach and Under The Stars at Haydock in June, plus the gutsy front-running win at Pontefract (6f) and another decent effort last time at Doncaster, where she paid the price late on for showing plenty of dash in the early stages of the seven-furlong Group Three Sceptre Stakes.

Even so, Cam Hardie's mount battled on well when headed that day to finish sixth behind Foxtrot Lady and a host of much higher class fillies than she faces here. Back over six furlongs, she could take plenty of beating.

It is at the aforementioned Pontefract where ITV4 cover two races but, in the earlier Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies' Nursery, SPIRIT OF BERMUDA can prove well handicapped.

The daughter of Twilight Son made a winning debut for the William Haggas team at the Goodwood Festival when getting up close home in a bunch finish over seven furlongs.

Less than two lengths covered the first five home that day but the form has worked out surprisingly well with runner-up Iconic Queen winning at Chester next time, third-placed Great Vibes (now rated 88) taking a nursery at Newmarket and both the fourth Teodolina (87) and fifth Nazuna (87) also performing well.

It could be that the usually shrewd Haggas made a mistake when running Spirit Of Bermuda just nine days later in the Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket where, after an awkward start, she was in trouble two furlongs out behind shock winner Star Of Emaraaty.

Perhaps she wasn't quite up to running in Group Three company but the chances are that it all came a bit soon for her and, returning here after a break, a reproduction of that Goodwood performance over an extra furlong would make her hard to beat off a rating of 82.
