Simon Holt: Back Boy to star on Sunday at Goodwood

ATALANTA'S BOY threw away his chance at the start when well backed for last month's Stewards Cup and can make amends on a return to the same course and distance in the Ladbrokes Giving Extra Places Every Day Handicap at Goodwood on Sunday.

David Menuisier's gelding reared just as the stalls opened that day, but had earlier looked progressive this season winning at Chelmsford before being caught close home by Arcanada at Windsor with the re-opposing Chairmanoftheboard (1lb worse off) back in fourth.

Atalanta's Boy has gone well on two other visits to Goodwood, being awarded victory here last May and then, perhaps most significantly, making all decisively in heavy ground last September.

Drawn eight close to the stands side running rail, a better break from the stalls should ensure a bold bid.

Chairmanoftheboard could still be the main danger having thrived on a return to six furlongs this term and he too has good course form including a wide margin win on soft ground as a two-year-old and, most recently, a close fifth in the Stewards Cup.

However, he has gone up plenty in the ratings and may not be quite so well drawn in stall one out in the centre.

Brian The Snail finished well to take third in the Stewards Cup but was well beaten at Ripon subsequently and is unproven on the likely surface.

In the Ladbrokes Get Your Daily Odds Boost Handicap, IT'S GOOD TO LAUGH could be over-priced given his preference for cut underfoot.

The son of Tamayuz was disappointing on good to firm ground at Sandown last time but, may be better judged on a previous nose second to Louganini on soft going at Haydock where the first two finished over five lengths clear of the subsequent Sandown winner Zegalo.

It's Good To Laugh, on a mark of 92, looks well handicapped on that effort (holding Native Tribe on a line through Louganini) and, on heavy ground at Newmarket last November, chased home Godolphin's now 93-rated Global Storm when giving that rival 4lb and being hampered by the winner in the closing stages.
