The second day's racing out of lockdown features two extremely competitive cards and, at Newcastle, AMPLIFICATION can get us away to a good start in the Read Andrew Balding On Betway Insider Handicap over a mile.

Formerly trained by Ed Dunlop, the five-year-old has run two cracking races for Michael Dods albeit separated by ten months.

At Redcar in April of last year, Amplification faced, in hindsight, a stiff task when chasing home the now 92-rated Hortzadar at Redcar and then, returned with a strong-finishing second to the well handicapped Lofty over seven furlongs on this course in February.

On that latest run, it is hard to believe that the son of Lonhro won't be suited by running over a mile, and he may now be a much stronger horse than when beaten over this course and distance on a couple of occasions in the past. Given a bit of cover like last time, Callum Rodriguez can hopefully deliver him with a winning run inside the final furlong.

Every day is a Saturday as racing returns...

Later on MELODY KING could be the pick of the weights in the potentially high quality Betway Casino Handicap.

John Quinn's son of Kodiac stepped up on a debut victory at Thirsk last September when, conceding weight all round, he rattled home into third behind Gravity Force in a novice event at Ayr two weeks later.

With the winner (receiving 6lb) improving subsequently to reach a handicap rating off 92 and fifth placed Duesenberg rated 84, Melody King could prove well handicapped off just 82.

This race is full of promising types like Overwrite, Jean Baptiste, Custodian and Canagat, but the selection has a good attitude and won't be far away under Jason Hart.

In the Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap, GLEN SHIEL looks interesting dropping back to six furlongs on a course he handles well.

The Archie Watson-trained French import displayed plenty of speed when leading over three furlongs out to win over seven furlongs at Newcastle in January before being run down late on by Sanaadh and Rathbone (again here) the following month.

Raised to listed company at Wolverhampton (7f again) last time, Glen Shiel was in front over a furlong out against some good rivals before fading away, and this stiff six furlongs may now prove ideal.

The market is likely to be dominated by Sir Michael Stoute's colt Mubakker who was a convincing winner at Wolverhampton and Kempton before missing the break and running disappointingly on possibly unsuitable soft ground in his first handicap at Ascot in October.

The return to an all-weather surface will probably suit the son of Speightstown, and he remains a horse of potential.

At Kempton, the veteran course regular NOBLE GIFT could be worth a small interest at decent odds in the Unibet Money Back Free Bet If Second Handicap.

The ten-year-old front-runner is clearly not the horse he was having once been rated 104, and he is winnerless since May, 2017.

However, Noble Gift ran creditably here over a longer trip on a couple of occasions last year and, with only Dawry (up in distance) as a likely rival for the lead, he could take some pegging back off a career-low mark of 75 in what looks an ordinary contest.

Moreover, just speculating, it's possible that a change of scene, following his trainer William Knight's recent move from West Sussex to Newmarket, could just have revitalised the old boy who has run well fresh in the past.

Finally, for a bit of further interest, THE GLANCING QUEEN is fancied to give the likely short-priced, John Gosden-trained favourite Galsworthy a run for his money in the Unibet Casino Deposit £10 Get

£40 Bonus Maiden Stakes.

Alan King's mare does not have a conventional background coming into this race but is a very useful bumper horse and, after a lay-off, ran eighth in the Cheltenham Festival Bumper in March having finished fifth in the same race in 2019 before landing the mares bumper at the Aintree Grand National meeting.

King has always regarded The Glancing Queen as a mare who could make hay on the Flat and her jumps rating of 124 suggests (accounting for an average difference of 35-40lb between the two codes) that she could prove a formidable rival to the 80-rated favourite who didn't necessarily look as if he wanted a step up in trip when third at Newcastle over a mile and a quarter in November.
