2.00 Yarmouth - Fillies’ Handicap 6f

There should be a bit of pace on here from Horse Whisperer and Guitari, for whom a change to front-running tactics proved the key over this C&D last time out. A good run from Kurimu in the last on Tuesday would give a good pointer to Guitari’s chances, as the pair finished 1-2 here at the last meeting, and a 3lb rise seems fair.

Guitari has a length and three-quarters to find with HIGH VIOLET on their Leicester form from July and is only 2lb better in today, so there seems little reason why the consistent High Violet cannot beat her again.

She needs pace to aim at but will get that here and can be marked up as a touch unlucky at Newmarket last time, beaten a length but with a slipping saddle in the closing stages.

The only real negative is that it’s been three weeks since trainer David Loughnane had a winner, but she’s potentially well drawn in stall 2 and looks sure to run her race again.

3.30 Yarmouth - John Musker Stakes (Listed) 1m2f

A cracking renewal of the John Musker and as always, a good-sized field. There are few you can rule out as not being good enough, and this looks a more open renewal than is sometimes the case. The complete unknown in the field is David O’Meara’s Estrange, who clearly knew her job on her debut at Goodwood last month, forging clear to win an easy 5½ lengths on soft ground. The question with her is whether she can build on that form on a quicker surface.

John Gosden has won this twice in recent times and he runs three. Rainbows Edge has only had the three starts and appears to be improving, although her second in the Listed Upavon Stakes at Salisbury last time came in a poor time and the shock 50/1 winner was rated just 77, so caution is required. Regal Jubilee has a much more solid body of work and was possibly a touch unlucky on her one go at the trip this season, although she was disappointing when last seen and now needs to bounce back.

LADY BOBA has no negatives having kept very strong company this summer and will find this a lot easier than a few of the tasks she’s been asked this season, including the Nassau last time where she was outclassed. A very easy winner at Listed level at Fontainebleu last year, she showed she had trained on again when only just denied by Queen of The Pride on her reappearance at Haydock in June.

That form has worked out very well, with the winner taking the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks next time (Lady Boba upholding the form in third) third home Mistral Star easily winning the Listed Aphrodite Stakes on her next start, fourth Sea Theme dotting up at Clairefontaine and sixth Scenic winning the Galtres at York. A short break since the Nassau disappointment should have done her good, and she can bounce right back here.

4.05 Yarmouth - 1m1f Handicap

Arctic Mountain won easily at Lingfield (1¼m) in June and was backed off the boards for what looked like a very competitive 16-runner York handicap the following week, going off a remarkably short 13/8 in the circumstances, but he set off at an unsustainable pace and any chance he had was extinguished by a slipping saddle, and he was eased right up in the closing stages. He’s clearly better than that, but again looked a hard ride at Hamilton last time, and may not be one for maximum faith.

Majestic is presumably using this as a stepping stone to another crack at the Cambridgeshire and will probably need the run, making James Webb the most attractive betting proposition. He was quite impressive in disposing of his opponents from the front here last month (third Shader won a Southwell novice by half the track next time) and the handicapper has been fair in raising him 4lb.

A line through Northern Ruler gives him a marginal edge over Roi De France, and I don’t see the slight drop in trip being a problem.
