DOUBLE: Dubai Honour and Ginny’s Destiny
Ginny’s Destiny can continue to demonstrate his love of Cheltenham with victory in the Paddy Power Gold Cup.
The eight-year-old, who is trained by Paul Nicholls, won three times at the course last year over trips around two and a half miles.
He subsequently lined up for the Turners Novices’ Chase at the Festival in March and went out on his shield in being beaten two lengths by Grey Dawning, before occupying the same spot in the Manifesto at Aintree when he was possibly over the top.
Now making his seasonal reappearance over a course and distance he loves, he escapes top-weight due to the presence of Protektorat and if coming back cherry-ripe, looks the horse to beat under Harry Cobden.
It is Dan Skelton’s L’Eau Du Sud who appeals in the Paddy Power Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase.
The grey made his debut over fences at Stratford last month and bar one significant error he showed a great amount of promise when scoring by 10 lengths.
At Cheltenham he steps straight up to Grade Two level and down in trip to two miles, but with a run under his belt he should be up to the task at a track at which he was second in the County Hurdle at the Festival.
In the Listed Karndean Designflooring Mares’ Open National Hunt Flat Race it is Harry Derham’s Jasmine d’Airy who can strike on her first run in Britain.
The Authorized mare has two second-placed point-to-point runs to her name, and was a wide-margin winner when trained by Sam Curling to win her debut under rules in a Tipperary bumper in May.
After that six-length victory she changed hands for £120,000 and can win again as she runs for new connections for the first time.
On the all-weather there is Listed action at Newcastle, where Dubai Honour appeals in the BetUK Churchill Stakes.
William Haggas’ six-year-old is a real globetrotter who has won eight times, including at the highest level in both France and Australia.
The French success was in June this season and he proved he had lost none of his enthusiasm when second in the Grosser Preis von Baden when most recently seen. This is a significantly easier task and he is therefore hard to look past, even under a penalty.
The other Listed event at Gosforth Park is the BetUK Golden Rose Stakes, where Annaf has to be there or thereabouts. Mick Appleby’s runner has plenty of form here and should be spot on following three runs in top company since returning from 196 days off.
