Scarface is the one of the six that has had a recent run, and he did look badly in need of it when fifth to Calico at Cheltenham a couple of weeks ago. He’s respected for last year’s winning stable, although Joe Tizzard complicates matters by running JPR One who jumped really well as a novice last year before disappointing in the Arkle.

He’s had wind surgery since and remains unexposed over fences. The market should help picking between the pair but they are hard to separate without such clues.

Sans Bruit jumped well when winning the Red Rum at Aintree but all of his form has come on softer ground and Heltenham surely wants further, leaving the 6-y-o Djelo, who ran a cracker in the Turners, serving it up to Grey Dawning and Ginny’s Destiny until his stamina just gave way over 2½m at Cheltenham.

This test should be right up his street, and unlike the stereotypical Williams chaser, he seems happiest on good ground. The absence since March is no concern given his trainer’s remarkable record at this time of the season (13-37 with handicap chasers after a break in November last year).

Brenda’s Asking finally got off the mark at Ludlow under a 7lb claimer but was far from foot-perfect and looks opposable racing off what is, in effect, a 14lb higher mark. The two at the foot of the handicap are of interest against the favourite, with Miss Goldfire fairly treated on her winning bumper form, and she’s shown enough ability in three hurdles starts to suggest she’ll do better now she goes handicapping.

Asian Spice was a winner on this card last year under Bryony Frost and looks to have been teed up with a repeat in mind. She shaped really well when a 2¾-length fourth to In The Air here a month ago, that being her first start since May, and her previous second to Tour Ovalie has worked out well too.

Conditions look ideal for her and connections are taking advantage of the fact that Bryony is back in the country for a short stint.

We're both keen on her chances today, but the price has rather collapsed in the last 24 hours and if we're backing her at current odds, chances are we're taking bottom price. We think she'll drift and will end up a bit bigger nearer the off.

COCO MADEMOISELLE looks very well treated here and is hard to oppose at the forecast odds. Useful over hurdles, winning twice from six starts, she easily made the transition to fences at Worcester when putting in a very good round of jumping and only going down by a neck to Hometown Boy; she was six lengths clear of Weveallbeencaught in third, and ten lengths ahead of Jesuitique.

Coco Mademoiselle was in receipt of the mares’ allowance there, but emerged as the equal of the third at the weights, and 4lb superior to the fourth. That pair have run with credit since, Weveallbeencaught a close second at Cheltenham off 128 and Jesuitique successful off 123 at Sedgefield.

It’s clear that the handicapper would have been justified in raising her 5lb or more for that debut effort, but he has left her unchanged on 122, and she looks thrown in on the bare form, with improvement almost guaranteed.
