Robert Cowell Stable Tour: Guide to his team for 2020

Robert Cowell talks Oli Bell through his team for 2020 - ranging from established stars to unraced and promising two-year-olds.

Flagbearers

ENCORE D’OR has won loads of races for us. He had a little bit of a setback last year but seems to be back and firing on all cylinders and likely to show up quite well this year. He’s won quite a bit of money over the years and taken us to some of the top tracks.

We have a nice team of older horses who tend to pick up in these decent sprints including JUMIRA BRIDGE, BLUE DE VEGA and COWBOY SOLDIER. I like him. He was quite lightly raced last year because of an issue with a knee but seems back again and firing on all cylinders. There’ll pop up in one of the big races at some point and all look absolutely fantastic and raring to go.

ROCKET ACTION has done nothing wrong this year and has won three from five. If he translate his all-weather form back to the grass he could quite easily move into pattern company which I’m quite excited about. He’s been working well and we’re looking forward to moving him up in grade.

New recruits

DIAMOND DOUGAL and ALAADY are new recruits to the yard. They look nice types and were good sprinters last year. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do.

SAVALAS has had a few goes for us and hasn’t hit the ground running but I quite like him. Once he starts making some moves on the grass I think he could be fun and interesting to watch.

Handicappers

GOOD ANSWER hasn't had enough chances and we didn’t have a brilliant year last year but he looks like he’s come to himself. He’s a proper big stamp of a horse and I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes up a grade or two.

BHANGRA could quite easily make a mockery of her handicap mark with any luck while old RAUCOUS never ran a bad race at all last year. Everything he does he does with aplomb, he’s so professional and tries and we love that. He’ll be back but probably not too early on.

Three-year-olds

ROYAL APPOINTMENT is unraced but looks like he could be useful and LOTTIE MARIE is another of Cheveley Park’s. She has run a few times and won on her last start. The form looks quite useful. She’s probably a miler and if she can translate her all-weather form to turf she looks quite good. She’s been working well.

A filly to follow is SUR MER. She’s probably a lot better than her form indicates at the moment. She’s a big filly and will be winning very soon. She looks a fun animal to have.

Two-year-olds

I’ve some nice ones. I don’t have many this year and we were going to buy a few at the breeze-ups but clearly they’ve been delayed. Hopefully we’ll get some orders if they do take place.

We do have some early types including DELIVER THE DREAM and ISLE OF LISMORE. Others are SWOOPER ,CARBON POSITIVE and filly called SCILLIAN BELLE. All look quite useful. All bar Carbon Postive are forward and ready to run and I'd imagine they'll show up well although two-year-old racing will be competitive as most of the big yards will get some decent horses out straight away.

NAVY DRUMS is one for the future. I bought him out in America and he looks a very nice, long-striding horse. He could be one for seven furlong races later in the season.
