David Ord nailed an 8/1 winning Sunday Nap - now Matt Brocklebank is back with Monday's tips from around the tracks including a Redcar Nap.
TRAVEL CANDY was done for a bit of dash by the well-handicapped Impressor late on at Redcar recently but it was an excellent effort from the 40/1 chance that day, especially as she made her challenge a little deeper on the track than might have been ideal. Stepping back up to six furlongs looks no issue at all on that evidence and Brian Ellison's three-year-old makes plenty of appeal on similar ground running off the same mark back at the scene of that promising display.
The money came for LAURENS DREAM (certainly in relation to her last qualifying run when 200/1 at Catterick earlier in the month) on handicap debut and the daughter of Advertise put in a promising effort when third - beaten three lengths - in a Yarmouth nursery. She didn't get a brilliant run through the race that day either, having to wait for a clear passage when the pace increased, and leaving her on the same mark (59) does look potentially quite generous.
BATHGATE could be worth chancing at Ayr as he takes a drop in distance. Phil Kirby's recruit continues to come tumbling down the weights, having now dropped 10lb for his three runs since switching stables, but the comeback effort at Kelso offered a lot more encouragement as he only faded late on having been among the prominent racers early on. He's entitled to be sharper for that first start since July and gets the vote in this moderate affair.
HERAKLES perhaps hasn't quite kicked on as hoped since winning at Ripon in June but the assessor has relented again and there was promise to be taken from his return to the all-weather (2-8 on synthetic tracks) over this course and distance at the start of the month. That form has been given a couple of boosts since and Herakles being eased another pound means he's back on an exploitable mark of 65 (last two wins off 63 and 66).
Lady Roxby will probably boss the betting after a runaway win on nursery debut at Musselburgh but she's gone up 11lb for winning a six-runner affair and is possibly worth opposing with AL HUSSAR. Grant Tuer's gelding added to his Doncaster maiden triumph when landing a Catterick nursery at the start of October - his first run since being gelded - and the subsequent fifth under a penalty at York wasn't a bad effort given the company she was keeping. She's effectively running off 2lb lower here and the daughter of Bated Breath looks a likely type for this switch in surface.
