Michael Keady can kick off his solo training career with a winner at Southwell. The former plasterer has shared a licence with Mike Murphy for a couple of years and has around 20 horses in a small Newmarket yard for his new venture. CURRUMBIN has had a couple of promising runs for Hilal Kobeissi in recent weeks, the addition of a hood seeming to perk him right up again, and the three-year-old remains well treated on the pick of his previous form despite going up 2lb for a neck second to Upepo at Lingfield earlier in the month. He looks bound to enjoy this new, even more testing trip, and should be fine switching to Southwell for all that his sire Footstepsinthesand only has a 6.94% strike-rate here since the switch to Tapeta (used to be higher on Fibresand).

CREST OF LIGHT - 5.10 Chelmsford
CREST OF LIGHT found a good chunk of improvement when switched to his first handicap race at Southwell earlier in the month but the move from six furlongs up to a mile possibly just caught him out late in the day, especially as he'd been quite keen out in front early on. He was well beaten at 125/1 on his previous start at Chelmsford but has clearly turned a corner now and looks to be returning over the ideal trip of seven furlongs based on that latest showing. With a good draw in stall two and surely more improvement in the locker, a 1lb rise might not be enough to stop Kevin Philippart De Foy's horse getting off the mark at the fifth time of asking.

PERSONAL AMBITION – 3.05 Ascot (NAP)
Ben Pauling’s PERSONAL AMBITION can show his true colours now stepped up in trip in the Grade 2 Howden Noel Novices’ Chase at Ascot on Friday. This is a good little race, as you would expect for the grade, with Johnnywho, Rare Edition and Mark Of Gold in opposition, but Personal Ambition has been shaping well over an inadequate two miles and he can leave all of his previous form behind now he tackles 2m3f over fences.
FLASH IN THE PARK – 1.30 Uttoxeter
Dan Skelton has found a good opportunity for FLASH IN THE PARK to follow up his course and distance success last time in the Willis Cooper Chartered Accountants Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter. The six-year-old arrived for The Megsons from Ben Pauling’s in the summer break and he looks much improved for seeing a fence, battling to victory on his second chasing start last time with the pair miles clear of the third. Up 4lb, he can go in again against this opposition.
ZOUSCA – 2.17 Southwell
ZOUSCA is dead interesting up in trip to 1m4f in the Bet £10 Get £40 At BetMGM Handicap at Southwell. Now with Sue Smith & Joel Parkinson having formerly being trained by David Loughnane, the Zoustar filly hinted she might want this sort of stamina test last time at Wolverhampton when outpaced over the extended nine furlongs. Zoustar progeny have an excellent record at Southwell since the Tapeta surface was installed (14 wins from 61 at 23%) so she’s worth chancing here.
MY MATE BEATTIE – 5.00 Wolverhampton
Fernando looks sure to go well for Ed Walker in the Gamble Responsibly At BetMGM Nursery Handicap at Wolverhampton but he’s rather shown his hand after a good run at Southwell last time. Similar comments apply to Kempton second Hippocratic Oath and preference is for Ed Dunlop's MY MATE BEATTIE. Her best form is on the all-weather and she looks well-handicapped isolating those two runs, while the stable has an excellent record in nurseries at this track at this time of year.
