Tuesday selections
SELENIC - 18:00 Southwell (NAP)
Sir Mark Prescott is the personification of patience in a trainer and his SELENIC should be worth the wait on her return to action in the mile and three-furlong fillies' handicap at Southwell. The stoutly-bred daughter of Sea The Moon arguably took connections by surprise 12 months ago as she was beaten just a head on debut when sent off an unconsidered 66/1 chance but she proved that no fluke when off the mark at the second time of asking over the mile trip at Kempton in early-February. She's spent the subsequent months out of action for whatever reason but seems sure to appreciate the move up to middle-distances and there must be a chance the assessor has underestimated her potential with an opening mark of just 72. Prescott's final runner of 2025 was a winner and it won't be long before he's off the mark this year, with Selenic also holding an entry at Lingfield on Saturday in case the quick follow-up under a penalty becomes an option after Tuesday evening.
MY CHAMPION - 13:15 Wolverhampton
MY CHAMPION appeals as a likely type for Ed Bethell and Callum Rodriquez in the opening race at Wolverhampton. He qualified for low-grade handicaps with three moderate maiden/novice outings and duly stepped up on what he'd shown previously when runner-up on debut in this sphere from an opening mark of 62 at Newcastle last time out in November. Slowly away before keeping on late that day, he shapes like a move up to this longer trip will suit - in keeping with his pedigree seeing as he's out of a Henrythenavigator mare related to milers - and I don't mid that he's gone up a pound for the last run as he's still able to compete at 0-65 and should be up to winning one of these.
