LIL GUFF – 3.45 Southwell (NAP)
Cheekpieces look to have sparked LIL GUFF back to her best and she can win under a penalty in the Weekend Winners On Sky Sports Racing Handicap at Southwell. The Daniel & Claire Kubler-trained mare made all in good style at Bath last Sunday and looks well-in under her 5lb penalty here while I like her stands’ rail draw in 13 with that running style in mind. Cheekpieces really seem to be helping her travel sweeter and that’s what you want at this track on the front end, so she’s worth siding with while she’s in the groove with Oisin Murphy on board again.
QUAMBY – 2.00 Wetherby
Clermont Ferrand is likely to be all the rage here but she’s got to give 17lb on the weight-for-age to a lot of interesting three-year-olds and David Simcock’s QUAMBY appeals as a type to improve this season. I liked her significant progression from first to second start as a two-year-old when she ran a three-length fifth at 100/1 at Kempton when last seen and this daughter of Sea The Moon can improve again stepping up to 10 furlongs in this. Simcock’s in good form and this is the only runner he brings to Wetherby on Sunday.
