Racing tip of the day Monday April 3

Jonjo O'Neill has his team in fine form and he's fancied to bag another winner at Ludlow this afternoon by Ian Ogg.

1pt win Utility in 5.30 Ludlow at 9/2

Jonjo O'Neill has his string in good order at present with four winners from 17 runners in the past fortnight and he has a number of live chances across Huntingdon and Ludlow today.

The longest price of his nine runners is about 6/1 but one of the more interesting is Utility who ran in last season's Champion Bumper at the Aintree Grand National Festival.

The son of Yeats could only finish fourteenth having won his debut by 11 lengths but it's still interesting that he was thought capable of lining up for his Coolmore syndicate of owners.

He stepped up on the form of his hurdling debut when winning well at Chepstow in a race that has worked out pretty drastically. He did impress in the manner of his victory though and was duly sent off the 5/4 favourite for a novices' handicap hurdle at Sandown.

That didn't work out either but his subsequent absence since early December suggests that something may well have been amiss and he returns to action on a 3lb lower mark as he bids to redeem himself.

He does have it to prove but this relatively expensive, well bred individual clearly shows plenty at home and has twice impressed on the track, albeit in modest races; this could be the time to catch him with his yard in form and the step up in distance (to two miles five) expected to suit.
