Our new all-weather tipster Jamie Maynard had a 10/1 winner at Chelmsford on Thursday - don't miss his selections for Newcastle on Friday evening.

The one unraced horse on the all-weather, Cashla Bay, would surely have a chance on the form she showed in two maidens at the back end of last year, but she has struggled since going handicapping. Veena scored over track and trip in February and has her sights lowered for this after finding a Haydcok listed event too hot the last day but I think the double seeking FRUIT SALAD could be the bet. James Bethall’s filly stayed on very well to win here over the minimum last time and the step back up to six furlongs looks the right move. A bit more is needed now upped in grade and raised 3lb but previous efforts over this trip have been encouraging and she has the experienced Josephine Gordon, who rides the course well, in the saddle.

The two penalised runners in this seven-furlong contest are probably the ones to focus on. Gun Case won over C&D last Saturday after threatening to on his two previous runs here. He carries a 6lb penalty but a repeat effort will see him go close. However, I prefer the other course winner from Saturday, REY LOOPY, who too carries a 6lb penalty for victory over an extra furlong, but this less exposed three-year old showed a nice turn of foot after a patient ride and is open to more improvement. The drop back in trip shouldn’t be a problem having already won over C&D back in May and a more positive ride today can see him take this. One who could outrun their odds near the bottom of the handicap is Insurplus who steps back up to a winning distance having finished a fair third over six furlongs here last week.
