Arnarson continues to run admirably but is still a maiden after twelve career starts. His latest close second was on handicap debut so there’s still plenty of time for him to shed that tag on a workable mark. Straight Away is much less exposed than this field, he won a maiden on debut before coming unstuck on Southwell’s fibresand, but he could prove more effective on the polytrack so can’t be completely ignored. Three of these were closely matched twelve days ago at Lingfield. Pretty Bubbles (second) has a good record here having won four times and although he’s up a pound since that run he still sits 11lbs below his highest winning mark and a repeat performance will see this eight-year old go close with the added bonus of Josephine Gordon in the saddle. Geoff Potts (third) has been consistent recently over this trip on both turf and synthetics and is another with a live chance but it’s the sixth placed horse that day, DEEDS NOT WORDS, who I’m handing my vote too. He showed some nice early speed and was travelling smoothly before getting blocked in on the rail and had no way through which resulted in him being eased close home. He’s got a nice draw again for this and in the hope that he gets a clear run, this six-year old should be right there. He’s a multiple distance winner and won on his only visit to this track. Trainer Michael Wigham and jockey David Probert have a 25% strike-rate when teaming up too.

The feature handicap on this evening’s card is a class 2 event being run over six furlongs and there are plenty here worthy of respect. Reckless Endeavour is in search of an all-weather hat-trick having won twice at Dundalk when in the hands of Ger Lyons. He’s now switched stables to Jamie Osborne but a rise in both the weights and grade could put an end to the run. Straight Right was travelling nicely at Ascot last time before seemingly not seeing out the trip over seven furlongs, so a drop to six furlongs could be a good move and his only effort over this distance was when beaten seven lengths in the Commonwealth Cup behind the likes of Caravaggio, Harry Angel and Blue Point. He can go well on all-weather debut. The two to focus on for me however are the David O’Meara pair, Intisaab and OUT DO, who are closely matched on a couple of runs against each other. The former has good form over this trip and won in this class off this mark on turf back in April but it’s the latter who I think will come out on top here. He was just ahead of his stablemate just over a week ago in a Listed event at Lingfield and his form over course and distance reads very well having won twice from three starts. He won the Wokingham from a 5lb lower mark which is good form and this race would have been in the back of connections minds for a while now with this eight-year old winning it back in 2014. He looks to hold every chance.
