Harambe still in line for Ascot's Betfair Exchange Trophy

Harambe could yet take his chance in Saturday's Betfair Exchange Trophy at Ascot.

The Alan King-trained six-year-old has been towards the top of ante-post lists for the £150,000 contest ever since claiming last month's Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham.

His participation was thrown into some doubt after he was found to be lame on Tuesday morning, but speaking at Newbury on Wednesday afternoon, King confirmed his charge was likely to be declared on Thursday.

"He was sound this morning. If the lads are happy tonight and if he is OK tomorrow morning, I will probably declare him," said King.

"He would have to breeze on Friday morning."

Harambe also suffered an untimely setback prior to the Greatwood Hurdle, but did ultimately line up at Prestbury Park and secured a narrow victory.

King added: "These things happen all the time, it is just unfortunate it has happened twice when he has been entered to run.

"I thought yesterday (Tuesday) it was right to say he has an issue, but he was perfectly sound this morning."
