Aidan O'Brien fielded four against Newmarket hero Galileo Gold but not one of them hit the frame. Hugo Palmer's horse was made to settle for second behind the rapidly-improving Awtaad, whose bright turn of foot took him to the front just after passing the two-pole. He stayed on strongly to score by two and a half lengths and spark jubilant scenes in the winner's circle.
