There’s a lot of interesting stuff in between but for today’s tips at Navan I’m going for one in the first and one in the last, one a confident win bet – the other a chancy each-way.

In the first I like ALARM CALL at 2/1 for Ger Lyons and the Oasis Dream filly should take all of the beating.

She made a very promising debut at Naas on September 17, finishing fourth to Keeper Of Time in a 16-runner maiden.

It might not have been a vintage maiden, but Alarm Call was very much the one to take out of the race. Held up by Colin Keane after a slow start, she travelled well to the two furlong pole where she had to wait and got checked.

Once switched out she came home really well in the last furlong and she swept by her rivals after the line. Dropping back half a furlong should not inconvenience her at a stiff track like Navan and she should be sharper for the experience.

I can’t see the softer ground being a problem and her full-sister, Immediate, won over this trip, which adds confidence she has the speed to cope with today’s test.

Looking at the opposition, 2/1 looks a very fair price.

Finally, in the closing second division of the Yellow Furze Handicap a more speculative one is SWISS COTTAGE each-way at 10/1 (Sky Bet are 1/5 1,2,3,4,5).

He wasn’t beaten far by Mendelssohn when a two-year-old back in 2017 but he’s hardly kicked on from that given he’s yet to win a race from 25 starts.

However, he was rated 87 at one point, is running off 51 now and last time out I thought there was a hint that he’d found his level at last.

He was sluggish coming out of the gate at Cork and had plenty to do in the straight, but he finished off quite nicely for fourth and I like him stepping up to 10 furlongs on that evidence.
