Fran Berry: Luck be a Lady | Tuesday's Cork betting preview and tips

Our man in Ireland Fran Berry has one bet for this afternoon's card at Cork as he targets the seven-furlong handicap and a well-drawn filly who should love the conditions.

Recommended Bets: Tuesday August 25

1pt e.w Lady Savannah in 1.45 Cork at 16/1

The ground is just about raceable at Cork this afternoon after persistent rain has turned conditions heavy.

With that in mind I’ll be taking a conservative approach and I’m in no mood to take on some of the hot favourites in the juvenile races with conditions set to suit them.

The one horse I do want to back is LADY SAVANNAH in the corkracecourse.ie Handicap at 1.45 over seven furlongs.

She won at Leopardstown in June on fast ground which might lead you to think today’s conditions will be against her, but I don’t think that’s the case.

Last October she was just beaten half a length on soft ground at the Curragh and was a close-up fourth last August at Tipperary on heavy, so she has solid form when the ground turns testing.

A winner off a mark of 48, she’s just 3lb higher today and is a strong-travelling filly who should be suited by dropping back to seven furlongs in this ground.

Crucially, she has a great draw in 16 towards the stands’ rail, the place to be in this type of race judging by recent meetings at Cork.

With plenty of boxes ticked, she’s well worth chancing at 16/1 each-way with Sky Bet paying four places on the race.
