Frankie Dettori dreaming of Melbourne Cup glory in 2019

Frankie Dettori would love to headline the first year of Sky Sports Racing by winning the Melbourne Cup for the first time.

Dettori will continue to globe trot in 2019 in order to ride in the world's biggest races, but Australia's "Race That Stops A Nation" is a prize that has so far escaped him.

The Italian has finished second aboard Central Park (1999) and more recently in 2015 aboard Willie Mullins' Irish raider Max Dynamite.

Australian racing, along with high-profile meetings from France, Hong Kong and the United States, will be part of the Sky Sports Racing international portfolio when coverage begins from 9am on New Year's Day on Channel 415.

Dettori did taste success at the 2018 Breeders Cup aboard wonder mare Enable and he remains keen to be part of big events like that and the Melbourne Carnival as his glittering 30-year career shows no sign of slowing.

"It [Breeders Cup] has got that Ryder Cup feel. We are going to their back yards with our best horses trying to win," said Dettori, also successful aboard Expert Eye at Churchill Downs in November.

"That's what makes the Breeders' Cup greater for us because when we do pull it off it really means something.

"In American fashion, they like to knock us down all the time, as they do in the Ryder Cup, and it's probably the only time when I go there that I feel like I am representing Europe, not just myself.

"As for Melbourne, it's amazing I have never got to win it yet. I've been second twice, but that's another big race you can watch on Sky Sports Racing and hopefully one day I will get to win it."

Sky Sports Racing viewers will be able to watch over 200 French Fixtures; the Breeders' Cup, Kentucky Derby and US Triple Crown; the Melbourne Cup Carnival; and all 88 fixtures from the Hong Kong Jockey Club, exclusive to Sky Sports Racing.

The channel will broadcast over 700 UK fixtures in full HD to approximately 14m homes and will be available to all basic satellite and cable subscription packages, with no Sky Sports subscription required.
