7.15 totetrifecta Pick The 1,2,3 Handicap:

There’s three last time out winners in the field for this six furlong handicap. Captain Lars scored over the minimum trip on Tuesday and has a 6lb penalty to contend with here stepping back up in trip though he seems to run his best races over that shorter trip. Born To Finish did exactly as his name suggests when coming home with a real flourish the last day when pipping Major Valentine on the line and the latter re-opposes a pound better off but I’d expect the former to confirm that running having gone well here before.

The one that stands out though is course and distance winner EXCELLENT GEORGE from just a 3lb higher mark than when fending off both Captain Lars and Duke Cosimo and the pair come into this on worse terms so shouldn’t be turning the tables with the six-year old. Since returning from a break this winter he’s won twice and finished a close third on the other occasion and Milly Naseeb is able to claim a valuable 7lb (rides this course well with 15% strike-rate). The selection is drawn slightly wide but should be capable of overcoming that and landing a track and trip double for Stuart Williams who’s not shy of a winner at this Essex course.

8.45 Beer Festival Here 20th And 21st April Handicap:

Outlaw Torn is a five-time winner over this mile-and-a-quarter trip and his best victory came a month ago when he went shooting off into an uncontested 30-length lead at Newcastle before staying on nicely to win by a healthy seven lengths. It’s highly unlikely that will happen again and he’s been held the last twice from a revised mark. Ravenhoe escapes a penalty for Tuesday’s win at Lingfield over a shorter trip and is again ridden by apprentice Oliver Stammers though is now upped to a distance in which he’s failed to get that competitive before so is passed over for the mare SEVILLA.

She comes from the up-and-coming yard of Olly Murphy and was a fair third recently coming from well off the pace to finish three-lengths behind her stablemate Compatriot, who won with any amount in hand earlier this week and is highly thought of in the yard. She’s running off an unchanged mark and I’m sure she’ll be ridden much closer to the pace here and while still a maiden, the booking of Luke Morris is very significant as he’s won four times from six rides when jocked up for this trainer. Everything points to a huge run.
