Vegas Boy was an impressive five-length winner over course and distance last month but the handicapper has taken note and raised him 13lbs for that, resulting in him stepping up a grade here. Sir Michael Stoute has a 23 per cent strike-rate so his Procedure must enter calculations having gone close recently at Kempton but she may be worth opposing at short odds. The horse I’m drawn to is the top-weight, SWING OUT SISTER, who has been running well over the minimum, winning on her penultimate start before a recent staying-on third on nursery debut, which suggests that the step up to six furlongs will suit. She’s running off an unchanged mark and may be able to capitalise now dropped in grade.

A wide-open handicap where a case can be made for plenty. The in-form yard of Ralph Beckett will fancy their Tropical Rock to run a big race from a good draw now stepping up a furlong after a staying-on third last time out. Midnight Macchiato showed improvement on some poor efforts this year when making his all-weather debut here two weeks ago, beaten by a half length, but it’s been over two years since his only win so is worth opposing again. Five-time all-weather winner Miracle Garden won on his penultimate start before finishing a good third here next time but struggles in this grade and his mark looks high enough now.

The suggestion is six-year-old gelding and two-time course winner PEARL SPECTRE. His previous two runs have hinted that he might be ready to win again and he was unlucky last time when collared on the line. He’s been raised 3lbs but drops in grade and this mark of 85 is the same as when last successful. Any further improvement on that recent second should see him go close at decent odds.
