Everything in this race points towards Banff. He has recently joined the new kid on the block Olly Murphy, the form of his first hurdle run for the yard has been franked and recently he won at Newcastle on the Flat, followed by another fair effort on the level. Running off the same mark as his Market Rasen second suggests he will take all the beating, but the question mark is the trip. I think he has every chance of getting home and if he does he could win on the bridle, but there is a question mark and at 4/6 I don't think there's much juice in the price.
The horse who caught my eye two starts back was NOTNOWSAM, he travelled strongly for much of the contest but lacked a gear change at the business end of the race over a trip of almost three miles. He had reverted to hurdles this day having been regressive over chases dropping down from 124 (November 2016) to a mark 85 (albeit he is rated higher over chases). He ran next time on bottomless ground at Cartmel and again showed up for a long way until weakening between the last two flights. His effort was far better than the winning margin suggests that day.
I like the fact he's running over 2m 4f on decent ground today and he has continued to drop down the weights and runs off an all time low of 79. The 14/1 generally available each-way in a dead eight-runner race looks worth a small play.
