OXWICH BAY took part in a couple of hot races last season and a couple of his past rivals have gone on to show very useful form since.
At Ffos Las two starts ago he was very keen yet only beaten just shy of two lengths by Robinshill, albeit in receipt of 11lb. Robinshill won a decent little handicap chase off 131 yesterday.
Next time he forced a reasonably hard pace and both himself and winner Brave Eagle finished well clear of the third. Nicky Henderson's horse went in again on his next start and is also rated in the 130s, so on both runs over timber it's clear that a mark of 115 could massively underestimate Oxwich Bay.
Evan Williams drew stumps with him pretty early in the season but the trainer's horses are running really well with two winners and three seconds this week, so providing he's ready to go this five-year-old is expected to take all the beating.
Of the opposition, Megabucks rates a threat on his effort at the course last time, but he was sent off 66/1 that day and this point-to-point winner may be seen to better effect over further.
Inn The Bull made mistakes when third of seven off a 1lb higher mark last time and may have been flattered when winning from off the pace at Worcester, One For Billy has been well beaten off his current mark twice now and Zen Master's yard have gone a little quiet.
By contrast, the best-handicapped horse in the race represents a red-hot yard and he must have a huge chance here, especially with the prospect of plenty more to come this season.
