The best bet in Murt Khan's Breaking It Down column comes from this afternoon's meeting at Newton Abbot.
There is a small but select field in the Weatherbys Racing Bank Intermediate Chase and it's a race that wouldn't look out of place at Cheltenham in the heart of the winter.
Black Corton hasn't done much wrong in his recent runs but they've been in small fields and it's hard to get a real grasp on whether he warrants his rating of 150. He does though receive a lot of weight from his key rivals and potentially could have the run of the race.
Connections of Frodon will be hoping he can emulate his achievements of last season, notching up six wins from nine runs. A tongue tie has been applied today and he faces some stiff opposition on his seasonal reappearance, but he's a young horse and is open to more improvement.
One horse who I feel really warrants his rating is FLYING ANGEL. I loved him as a hurdler and thought he had a bright future ahead of him early on in his career. It's been a bit of a mixed bag since he's gone chasing but he has shown signs of brilliance when putting it all together.
I think the combination of class and a willing attitude will see him in the winners' enclosure today and north of 2/1 seems fair.
