2pts win Master Jake in 2.35 Newton Abbot at 3/1 (Betfair) - seems a different horse since going up in trip and appears to be thriving at present

1pt win Talent To Amuse in 3.10 Newton Abbot at 5/2 (General) - has further potential to improve as a hurdler and could be happier going left-handed here

1pt win Sir Maximilian 4/1 (General) and 1pt win Spring Loaded 9/1 (General) in 3.00 Chester - this pair look the standout options from decent draws in contest sure to be run at a furious gallop

After a frustrating run of seconds MASTER JAKE has scored back to back victories since connections decided to step him up in trip.

I was one who questioned his attitude last season, but have been very impressed with his victories, especially last time out at Wetherby.

I mentioned after his last race that he was a horse who could easily go in again before taking his chance in a big-prize event over the summer.

This race is a step up in class with the likes of Southfield Vic and Keltus in the line-up.

Southfield Vic had a nice confidence booster last time but it's hard to know what he achieved, while Keltus is coming off a disappointing run and has to jump better to figure today.

No Buts won well last time but hasn't won off this mark before. He had run just behind against Wadswick Court at Chepstow previously and for me the Peter Bowen trained nine-year-old is respected. However, MASTER JAKE has a lovely progressive profile against horses who have a bit to prove and at a current best price of 3/1, he looks worth a play.

1510 Newton Abbot - Talent To Amuse

Adrrastos finally broke his maiden tag last time out at Plumpton. He won comfortably by five lengths but, for me, beat a below-par Barrdd who jumped poorly throughout.  I'm sure he will give his running from the front again but is vulnerable today.

Amour De Nuit hasn't done much wrong over the winter notching up a couple of wins and a few placed efforts. He is giving weight to all his rivals today but looks the one to beat.

I like TALENT TO AMUSE who is in receipt of 11lb from Amour De Nuit. She possessed a fair amount of ability on the Flat and I have been taken by her two hurdle victories.

Her jumping wasn't great going right-handed at Kempton last time and I feel she will be better going back left-handed here.  She beat Canoodle last time out who went on to win subsequently and is open to further improvement. I think she can notch up a hat trick and a the widely-available price of 5/2 is appealing. It will be interesting to see if any money comes for Champagne City and Mister Universum in opposition.

1500 Chester - Sir Maximilian and Spring Loaded

This five-furlong event is likely to be run at a frantic pace today.

SIR MAXIMILLIAN is taking a class drop and has a nice draw in stall three. If he can hold his position and sit in the box seat he should go very close. (Sir Maximilian was announced as a NR at 1015)

I find it hard to split him and SPRING LOADED, a horse who has always possessed a lot of speed but has never won over the minimum trip before.

He has a nice draw in stall five and I'm confident he has the pace to hold his position, even over this very sharp five furlongs. He will relish a breakneck gallop and is one of the horses who will be staying on best at the back end of the race.

He's rated a lot higher on the all weather and is handicapped to be very competitive off 95 today.

Another to note

1855 Chelmsford City - Pavillon

PAVILLON really caught the eye when winning on her debut at Kempton last November. The form hasn't worked out great, but as an individual she really filled the eye and is sure to have improved bundles from two to three. She's one to keep an eye on this evening.

Tuesday's tip review

4.20 Ffos Las - Ugolin De Beaumont - 2nd

It was a matter of the two unexposed horses battling out the finish and skipping clear of the field. UGOLIN DE BEAUMONT really got the field strung out with some good jumping as the pace lifted a mile out. Unfortunately for his backers, Super Scorpion was always travelling well behind and was delivered with a good-timed run from Tom Bellamy. Lost Legend showed signs of coming back to form and should win a race off his current mark.  Having dropped down in the weights over the winter, he travelled a lot better with the reapplied visor.
