Southwell 2.35 preview

SKILLED looked like a very well handicapped horse on his last start at Stratford. Subsequent winner Miami Present was well backed that day and really put Skilled under pressure with his jumping, forcing a couple of bad errors from him.

It was to the horse's credit he managed to muster up another effort to get the better of Miami Present that day finishing well clear of the rest. The way Miami Present won yesterday evening suggests both horses were way in front of the handicapper.

His first run for the yard at Uttoxeter was also very encouraging when finishing a clear second to an improving sort in Bestwork, who himself went on to beat a subsequent winner since. The form looks very strong of this run.

Skilled has gone up eight pounds for his last run which looks fair, especially taking his modest jumping into account. Southwell can be a tricky when it comes to jumping but I'm hoping the longer straights will suit the Olly Murphy trained six year old.

If getting into a nice rhythm I think he will be very hard to beat.
