Our experts' best bets

ENGLISH OAK – 3.00 Goodwood (Andrew Asquith)

English Oak40
Age: 4|  Weight: 9-6| J: James Doyle| T: E Walker| OR:  108| D
4/1

ENGLISH OAK may have found Noble Dynasty too strong when in receipt of lumps of weight on his reappearance, but he has improved in leaps and bounds since, and his performance in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last time marked himself out as a horse ready to step into pattern company. He has the profile of one that still has more to offer, too, so he’s fancied to improve past some of these more exposed types and take this step up in class in his stride.

ARISAIG - 5.20 Goodwood (Matt Brocklebank)

Arisaig17
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: J P Spencer| T: C Johnston| OR:  88| D
9/2

ARISAIG won with something to spare on the sharp, downhill track at Lingfield early last month and she's since held her form reasonably well at Ascot and Newmarket since. The drop back to a bare seven furlongs didn't seem to play to her strengths on the July Course last time but she's worth another chance off 1lb lower here given her unexposed profile and the yard's excellent record at this meeting down the years.

1.50 Goodwood – Bystander

Bystander31
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-12| J: C Lee| T: K R Burke| OR:  91| D
12/1

BYSTANDER has done all of his winning on the all-weather but he was a good fourth in a hot handicap over a mile at Newmarket earlier this year and was well on top at the finish when scoring over this trip of 10 furlongs at Newcastle last month. As always around Goodwood, he’ll need luck in-running but he’s landed the plum draw in stall one and the feeling is there’s still more to come from this son of Dark Angel back on the grass.

3.35 Goodwood – Kyprios

Kyprios40
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-12| J: R L Moore| T: A P O'Brien| OR:  120| CD
8/13

It’s hard to see past KYPRIOS in the Goodwood Cup. He looked back to somewhere near his best when winning the Gold Cup last month after missing the majority of last season and he won a much stronger renewal of this race back in 2022. He has 10 lb in hand of his nearest rival here on the Timeform ratings.

4.10 Goodwood – Jm Jungle

Jm Jungle30
Age: 4|  Weight: 8-8| J: Jason Hart| T: J & S Quinn| OR:  89| CD
7/1

Lord Ridderford is back for more having won this race for the last three years but he needs a big revival having only beaten four rivals (from 20) home in two runs this year and it looks significant Jason Hart is aboard his stablemate JM JUNGLE. He’s dropped down the weights after a slow start to the season but he looked to be coming to the boil again when a good fourth at the Curragh last month and we know he goes well at this track having won at this meeting last year.

5.20 Goodwood – Circe

Circe10
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: Hollie Doyle| T: R Hannon| OR:  87| D
11/2

CIRCE was highly tried as a two-year-old and had shaped well in defeat in a couple of handicaps earlier this year before finally putting it all together when scoring at Newbury 10 days ago, getting the better of Battle Queen who had run well in the Sandringham at Royal Ascot prior to that. She impressed with the way she travelled though the race there under a prominent ride from Hollie Doyle, traits which often pay dividends at Goodwood. Her form is stacking up well and a 4 lb rise for that latest win looks fair.

Timeform race-by-race verdicts

1.50 Goodwood

John Smith's Cup winner ENFJAAR might have even more to come and is taken to defy the handicapper again. Stay Well chased home the selection on AW at Chelmsford when seen and heads the dangers along with Bystander, who has done his winning on AW but reached the frame a in a strong Newmarket handicap in the spring. A leap of faith is needed with Killybegs Warrior but he is well treated if first-time cheekpieces help to spark a revival.

2.25 Goodwood

Having showed near-useful form on debut in Group company, THE PARTHENON was never stronger than at the finish when landing a Gowran maiden (7f) 44 days ago. Evidently held in high regard his powerful stable, he's well worth his place back at pattern level and earns the vote to build on his latest run. An Outlaw's Grace following his good fourth in the Prix Robert Papin and Aomori City rate next best.

3.00 Goodwood

KINROSS returns to a C&D which has brought out the best in him and can land this Group 2 for a third time. English Oak's dominant performance in the Buckingham Palace marks him down as one who can make the leap from top handicaps to pattern level and he's second choice ahead of Criterion winner Noble Dynasty.

3.35 Goodwood

KYPRIOS looked back to his best when regaining the Ascot Gold Cup 6 weeks ago having missed the majority of last season, and he can do the same here having won a stronger renewal of this race 2 years ago. Gregory's run in the Ascot Gold Cup was too bad to be true so may bounce back, with his stablemate Sweet William best of the others.

4.10 Goodwood

FAIR WIND showed a fine turn of foot when running out a cosy winner of a 17-runner runner handicap at Ascot 17 days ago and a 4 lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent the follow up providing a smooth run. Jm Jungle looks to be coming to the boil again judged on his latest effort and is an interesting contender having won at this meeting last summer, while Walbank remains lightly raced for his current yard and completes the shortlist.

4.45 Goodwood

Plenty to consider in this valuable maiden, with CARRADOS shading the vote having had 3 subsequent winners behind him when runner-up over C&D 7 weeks ago. Wheels of Fire shaped with plenty of promise at Windsor and is next best ahead of Gannas and Jouncy.

5.20 Goodwood

Plenty to consider with CIRCE taken to follow up her Newbury win. Sandringham second Strutting has obvious claims if backing that effort up. Mercury Day and Queen's Reign are a couple of others to note.

5.55 Goodwood

Boasting some very solid handicap form as a 3-y-o and successful in this race 12 months ago, EXECUTIVE DECISION highlighted she's coming to the boil at just the right time when fourth at Ascot 18 days ago. Easing in the weights, she appeals as a likely type and can make a bold follow-up bid in this race. Katey Kontent, 3-y-o Dance And Romance, Jumbeau and Miss Bodacious are others to consider.
