- 1990: Simon Hodgkinson scored a then record 23 points for England against Argentina at Twickenham.
- 1999: Blackburn sacked manager Brian Kidd after winning just three of their first 14 games in the second tier following relegation from the Premier League.
- 2007: Great Britain beat New Zealand 44-0 in the second rugby league Test at Hull's KC Stadium to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
- 2008: Watford parted company with manager Aidy Boothroyd, the man who had taken them to the Premier League in 2006.
- 2009: Alan Curbishley won his case for wrongful dismissal against West Ham.
- 2010: A bid for London to host the 2015 World Athletics Championships was abandoned due to continuing uncertainty over the future of the 2012 Olympic Stadium. The capital was instead put forward to host the event in 2017.
- 2011: Former Pakistan Test cricket captain Salman Butt was jailed for 30 months for his part in a conspiracy to bowl deliberate no-balls against England at Lord's.
- 2012: Ian Holloway left Blackpool to become Crystal Palace's new manager, before leading the Eagles to promotion.
- 2015: Former England cricket captain Tom Graveney died at the age of 88.
