The bitches take centre stage at Towcester this afternoon in the Bet365 Empress Stakes Final at 4.26 and, although she will be available at cramped odds, it is hard to oppose Avongate Venus (T6) following her relentless march to this decider.

Phil Milner's speedster hasn't stopped improving all season and could not have been more impressive when easily disposing of the smart New Destiny in the semi-finals. Flying out of the traps, she stretched away down the back straight for a track record-equalling 28.52 (+20) demolition, and her electric acceleration from the get-go should help her overcome the unknown territory of the striped-jacket berth.

Golden Palace (T2) has made little impact tackling some tough assignments this year but was seen in a better light against lesser company last Sunday following a spell on the sidelines. This December '21 dog was always handy behind the promising Silverhill Adam, recording a fair 29.28 (calculated), and will have a big shout in the 1.57 if running up to that mark.

In the 2.33 over 712m, Tommys Lotto (T5) produced some strong-staying victories at A1 level over 500m and was sent off a warm favourite to carry on the good work when stepped up to this trip last week. He looked a shade unlucky on that occasion, as he was shuffled back at the first turn before finishing powerfully and just failing to reel in the leader. There is not a lot of early pace on offer in this line-up and he is fancied to recoup those losses.
