Tiger Woods is hoping the combination of hard work, execution and even luck can take him to a fifth Green Jacket and 15th major championship at The Masters.
Woods has been working hard on an Augusta-style putting green he has installed at his home in Florida as he looks to win the tournament for the first time since 2005.
"A lot of practicing my putting, short game, getting a speed down," Woods said, when asked how his preparation for Augusta differed from any other week on the calendar.
"Some years I've gone there where the greens at Augusta seem slow because we've had the greens so much faster at home," he told GOLFTV. "But we don't have the slope that Augusta has, and so again that's trying to get a feel for shaping shots."
Woods won the first of four Masters titles in 1997 to herald the dawn of a new era of dominance, one which saw him win the first major of the season four times in less than a decade.
"It’s the best thing that we have in our sport," he added. "Each and every year, we get to go to a place that is like heaven to us.
"It is perfect. It’s just us. Golfers and their caddies. Pure golf. It’s the best."
The 14-time major champion makes just his third start in five years at Augusta and, having finished 32nd a year ago thanks to an excellent final round, knows more is required to end a major drought which extends back to the 2008 US Open.
"I’ve got a lot of work between now and then for that to even be a reality," he said.
"That would be special. But let’s get back to what it’s going to take.
"It’s going to take a lot of hard work. It’s going to take a lot of proper execution - and a little bit of luck here and there."
On driving up Magnolia Lane...
"It’s pretty cool and, you know, this is one of the most historic drives, and for me to stay up in The Crow’s Nest the first year…
"You know we came in from Georgia Tech's tournament. And so, I was up in a crow's nest, and we get in late night, you know somewhere near midnight, and get all situated. Everyone leaves, well I'm starving now. So, I try and make my way down from the crow's nest and try and find the front-desk.
"Well, I make a wrong turn and I end up in a champions locker room. And I'm like oh my god, this is...I've never been in here.
"Should I go in here? Yeah absolutely. And so, I'm looking at all the names and seeing all the champions and history. These are all the guys that I idolised, I looked up to, and I watched, and heard stories about.
"And then eventually, to be a part of it was a pretty special feeling."
On the champions dinner...
"To host champions dinner, that's part of one of the most nervous moments of my life.
"You know I have Ben [Hogan] on my right. I have Mr. [Byron] Nelson on my left. Sam [Snead] telling really off-color stories.
"Everything is like a blur. But, as years progress, you get a handle on it.
"And now it must feel almost like home for you. It does. You know, one of the years, probably about three to four years, we sat all in a row. It was Arnold, then Jack, then me.
"And, it's pretty neat because we have like 14 green jackets between the three of us, just sitting right there. It was a pretty neat, surreal experience."
