Tyrrell Hatton wanted more glory after Ryder Cup success

Tyrrell Hatton has taken confidence from successfully keeping his emotions in check during his Ryder Cup debut and now hopes the relaxed atmosphere of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship can help him secure a title hat-trick.

Hatton has come under criticism on more than one occasion for his reaction to on-course setbacks, with former professional Gary Evans labelling his behaviour "disgraceful" during the Dell Technologies Championship last month.

The 26-year-old admits he cringes when he watches the displays of petulance he believes have prevented him adding to his three European Tour titles to date, but achieved his goal of not "turning into the Hulk" at Le Golf National.

Hatton won one point from his three matches in Europe's victory and has recovered quickly from Sunday's celebrations to focus on a third straight win in the pro-am event which is staged at Carnoustie, Kingsbarns and St Andrews.

"It's definitely more relaxed than other weeks, which I guess helps me," Hatton said. "I enjoy the golf courses and obviously winning here the previous two years, it's great to be back.

"I feel like my game is in a good place. I'll be trying my best this week to make it three in a row. I'll have to see what happens but I don't feel too bad after Sunday's celebrations.

"St Andrews is a special place. It's got a certain feeling about it, standing on that first tee, you hope you don't miss the fairway. It's just great to be back. It's the Home of Golf and we get to play two other great courses as well."

Ryder Cup team-mate Tommy Fleetwood and two members of the American team, Brooks Koepka and Tony Finau, are also in the field for the £3.8million event.

Fleetwood and Open champion Francesco Molinari became the first European pair to win all four of their matches together in Paris, with Fleetwood labelling his debut the "number one experience I've ever had as a golfer."

But the 27-year-old is now focused on catching partner Molinari in the Race to Dubai title and retaining the title he won last year.

"Leading up to the Ryder Cup, you don't know how you're going to feel straight after it because it's such an intense week," Fleetwood said. "At the moment I feel okay and last night I was with my psychologist and we were kind of looking at trying to reset for the year.

"I've still got world ranking points to earn, still got tournaments I can win. There's still a chance in the Race to Dubai. I'm a long way behind but we know that Justin (Rose) almost did it last year and ultimately, probably, it was in his hands on the back nine (of the final event in Dubai).

"There's still plenty of things to reset and look forward to and take that amazing experience and try and build on it."
