Day four report

American Brian Harman holed a long-range putt on the 18th to claim a one-shot victory in the Wells Fargo Championship.

A play-off looked all but certain with Dustin Johnson, Pat Perez and Harman all tied on nine under and the latter lining up a lengthy putt on 18. 

But he judged it perfectly, adding a birdie to the one he had managed on 17 to post a four-under-par 68 and a four-round total of 10 under.

That was enough to bring 30-year-old Harman his second PGA Tour victory, adding to the John Deere Classic in 2014.

Patrick Reed led by one shot overnight in North Carolina but eventually finished five shots off the lead in a tie for 12th place after struggling to a 75.

World number one Johnson - in his first tournament back from a back injury - set the clubhouse pace with his round of 67, which also saw him birdie 18.

He was then joined by Perez, who was three under through four holes and recovered from a double bogey at 14 by birdieing two of the final three holes for a 68.

Jon Rahm finished fourth, two shots off the lead, with our tipster Ben Coley seeing his 500/1 each-way tip Smylie Kaufman finish in a tie for fifth. That return saw his pre-tournament preview land a profit of more than 36 points to advised stakes.

England's Paul Casey was the leading Briton, his final round of 68 helping him into a tie for 12th.

Day three report

Patrick Reed leads by a single shot heading into the final round of the Wells Fargo Championship after producing a 67 on Saturday.

Reed began the day three shots behind halfway leader Francesco Molinari but carded six birdies and a single bogey in his third round to get to eight under par.

Reed is chasing a sixth PGA Tour title and could have been even further in front, but saw a 30-foot eagle attempt at the 18th hit the lip of the hole and edge wide.

Reed told www.pgatour.com: "It was the calmest of three days and the scores are a lot lower, it seemed easier out there.

"I have just got keep on playing how I have been. Keep the ball in front of me, hit some greens and roll in some putts.

World number 12 Alex Noren and Spaniard Jon Rahm were in a share of second on seven under after posting rounds of 69.

Molinari, who began his third round with a one-shot lead after completing his second round on Saturday morning, was among the group another shot further back on six under after his 72.

World number one Dustin Johnson was four shots behind Reed on four under after Saturday's bogey-free 67, which finished with a birdie, and is joined by Zach Johnson, Phil Mickelson and Graeme McDowell.

Day two report

Billy Hurley III and Seamus Power are the clubhouse leaders after the second day's play at the weather-affected Wells Fargo Championship.

After heavy overnight rain caused a three-hour delay, Hurley III fired a three-under-par 69 while Irishman Power carded a 71  to leave both men sitting on five under.

Starting on hole 10, the American Hurley III made the turn on level par for the round but turned up the heat with four birdies in his final seven holes.

Power was in a good position to be sole leader but he bogeyed holes 15 and 17 as his round finish in disappointment.

John Peterson and first-round leader Francesco Molinari are also on five-under but they have their round to finish on Saturday after darkness brought a close to play just after 2000 local time.

Spain's Jon Rahm is one of five men on four under who have completed the round after he shot 71 in testing conditions.

World number one Dustin Johnson, making his comeback from a back injury which curtailed his shot at winning the Masters last month, is on even par after 13 holes, two over for the round.

Day one report

Francesco Molinari overcame a difficult start to earn a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Wells Fargo Championship at Eagle Point.

The Italian, a former Ryder Cup player, bogeyed his second hole, but recovered in fine fashion to reel off five birdies in the next seven holes and eventually card a six-under-par 66.

Molinari, who chipped in a birdie at the 18th, has a slender lead over four men on five under, with Alex Noren, JB Holmes, Grayson Murray and Brian Campbell all firing 67s.

Dustin Johnson enjoyed a solid return to action after a back injury curtailed his hopes of Masters glory last month.

The world number one, who was forced to withdraw on day one at Augusta, signed for a two-under-par 70.

He told pgatour.com: "I'm happy with the way I played. I didn't score that great, didn't really hole that many putts, but other than that I played really well.

"I thought I drove it nicely, hit a lot of good iron shots. You know, I'm happy with the way I played, for sure."
