Manuel Lanzini scored an incredible last-minute equaliser to secure West Ham a 3-3 draw at Tottenham.
David Moyes' side were 3-0 down inside 16 minutes and it could have been more, Jose Mourinho's side missing big chances to make it four including one for Gareth Bale on his return.
The Hammers pulled one back through Fabian Balbuena in the 82nd minute to give the visitors slim hope, before a Davinson Sanchez own goal three minutes later made for a nervy finish.
As the game entered the fourth minute of added time, the ball fell to Lanzini 20 yards from goal and the Argentinian struck into the top corner with the last kick of the game.

Report: Spurs denied on Bale's return
West Ham ruined Gareth Bale’s return to the Tottenham team as they scored three goals in the final eight minutes to steal a 3-3 draw in north London.
The Hammers were dead and buried after Spurs raced into a 3-0 lead after just 16 minutes as Son Heung-min’s opener after 45 seconds and Harry Kane’s double put them in total control.
They were still winning 3-0 when Bale came on as a 72nd-minute substitute but it all went wrong at the end as Manuel Lanzini’s stunning stoppage-time strike completed a comeback started by Fabian Balbuena and a Davinson Sanchez own goal.
The result will leave Jose Mourinho utterly sick as they threw away two points for the second successive home game and leaves them unable to impose themselves on the early Premier League table.
For West Ham, the comeback continued a promising start to the campaign following good wins over Wolves and Leicester.
It was a devastating end for Spurs, who made a similarly dramatic start, sweeping their opponents away.
Reaction
- Jose Mourinho, Tottenham
The Spurs boss was philosophical, saying on Sky Sports: “Of course I have to analyse the second half and I have to do it internally but for you I prefer to say that football happened and I prefer to praise West Ham’s belief.
“It’s not easy to be 3-0 and to keep this belief. Of course to concede three goals and lose that advantage is a big punishment.”
Asked what he had told his team at half-time, the Spurs boss added: “I told them to be aware of lots of set-pieces, which we knew they are very, very strong. David (Moyes) found in (Tomas) Soucek his new (Marouane) Fellaini. In the end they were lucky but they fought very hard to be lucky.”
- David Moyes, West Ham
West Ham boss Moyes felt his side got what they deserved, saying: “The half-time team talk was really difficult because we were 3-0 down but actually I thought we played really well apart from the first five, 10 minutes.
“Probably the toughest decision was not to make any decision. Obviously we’d given away three goals, which I couldn’t believe. These things happen, I think that’s the way football’s been a little bit.”
On the turnaround, Moyes said: “I think we did what we did in the first half. In the end we got some goals. It’s very difficult to use the word proud very often but tonight was a really proud moment to be the manager because of how well they played, how well they kept at it.
“Three-nil down against Tottenham, it’s a big result. I think the team’s getting better.”
- Declan Rice, West Ham
The West Ham midfielder was left shaking his head, telling Sky Sports: “Honestly I can’t tell you, it’s just one of them special moments in football, it just seemed like it’s meant to be.
“Obviously not the start we wanted but it still felt like we were playing good football. For some reason they didn’t push on in the second half, try to kill off the game.
“Once we got one we had to believe we could come back to draw or win. Manu’s goal, the reaction of the boys, it’s something I can’t put it into words. What a game.”
