PSG 3-0 Real Madrid

  • Real Madrid have lost consecutive Champions League games for the first time since April 2013 under Jose Mourinho.
  • Real Madrid failed to have a single shot on target against PSG tonight, the first time this has happened in the UEFA Champions League since Opta began collecting such data in the competition in 2003-04 (in 167 games).
  • Real Madrid suffered their joint-heaviest defeat on the opening matchday of a group stage campaign in Champions League history (also 0-3 vs Bayer 04 Leverkusen in 2004 and 0-3 vs Lyon in 2005).
  • PSG have found the back of the net in each of their last 25 Champions League matches, the current longest such run in the competition and the fourth longest in competition history behind Real Madrid (34 in Apr 2014), Barcelona (29 in Mar 2012) and Real Madrid (29 in Sept 2018).
  • PSG’s Angel Di Maria is the third player in Champions League history to score at least twice in a game against both Real Madrid and Barcelona, after Mário Jardel and Andriy Shevchenko. Di Maria netted his 19th and 20th Champions League goals in this match.

  • Club Brugge have lost only one of their last 11 matches in European competition (including qualifiers), winning five and drawing five.
  • Galatasaray are winless in their last 15 Champions League away trips (D3 L12), with the Turkish side last tasting victory in March 2013 against FC Schalke 04.
  • Club Brugge are the first team in Champions League history to draw three successive games by a 0-0 scoreline.
  • Galatasaray have failed to score in five successive away games, the 12th occasion a team has done so in the Champions League and first since Shakhtar Donetsk in September 2017.
  • Galatasaray named a starting XI in the Champions League without a Turkish player for the first time in their history.

Olympiacos 2-2 Tottenham

  • Tottenham failed to win a Champions League game having been two goals ahead for the second time and first since drawing 2-2 with Werder Bremen in September 2010.
  • Since the start of last season, Spurs have conceded more goals than any other side in the Champions League (21).
  • Olympiakos are winless in nine Champions League matches (D2 L7), their longest winless run in the competition.
  • Only Ruud van Nistelrooy (19) and Roberto Soldado (19) scored their first 15 Champions League goals in fewer games than Harry Kane (20).
  • Lucas Moura scored just his second goal from outside the box for Tottenham in all competitions and his first since August 2018 vs Fulham. The Brazilian has also netted four goals in his last three Champions League games, as many as he'd netted in his previous 23 in the competition.

Bayern Munich 3-0 Crvena Zvezda

  • Bayern Munich are unbeaten in 16 Champions League group games on home soil, winning 15 and keeping 11 clean sheets.
  • Crvena Zvezda have conceded 16 goals in their first four away games in the Champions League – more than any other team in their first four such games in the competition.
  • Bayern Munich have scored at least once in each of their last 29 home games in the group stage of the Champions League, last failing to score in such a match in November 2009 (v Bordeaux).
  • Robert Lewandowski has been directly involved in 42 goals in just 53 Champions League appearances for Bayern, with tonight his 37th goal (5 assists).
  • Following his goal against Crvena Zvezda, Robert Lewandowski has now scored against 23 opponents in the Champions League.

Shakhtar Donetsk 0-3 Manchester City

  • Shakhtar Donetsk have conceded 15 goals in their five meetings with Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League; the most they've conceded against an opponent in the competition.
  • Manchester City have kept clean sheets in four of their five Champions League matches against Shakhtar Donetsk, double the amount than they have versus any other side.
  • Since the start of 2016-17 campaign, only Real Madrid (84) and Bayern Munich (72) have scored more Champions League goals than Pep Guardiola's Man City (71).
  • Shakhtar Donetsk have failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last 17 UEFA Champions League matches (36 goals conceded).
  • Since the start of the 2017-18 Champions League campaign, only James Milner (10) has recorded more assists in the competition than Kevin De Bruyne (9).
  • Riyad Mahrez has had a hand in seven goals in seven Champions League appearances for Man City (2 goals, 5 assists).

Dinamo Zagreb 4-0 Atalanta

  • Dinamo Zagreb ended a run of 11 successive Champions League losses with victory over Atalanta, recording their largest margin of victory in the competition.
  • Atalanta are the 10th Italian side to play in the Champions League – this is the biggest defeat any team from Italy have faced on their debut.
  • Atalanta conceded with the very first shot on target that they faced in their Champions League history.
  • Mislav Orsic is the first Dinamo Zagreb player to score a hat-trick in the Champions League and the first Zagreb player to score more than once on debut.
  • Dinamo Zagreb left-back Marin Leovac scored his first ever Champions League goal in what was his first appearance in the competition since playing for FK Austria Wien in November 2013.

Atletico Madrid 2-2 Juventus

  • Atletico Madrid have lost only one of their last 19 Champions League home games (W14 D4 L1), losing only to Chelsea in September 2017.
  • Juventus became the first side to score at least twice away at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League since Chelsea in September 2017 (1-2).
  • Tonight, versus Atletico Madrid, Juventus started just one Italian player in a Champions League match for the first time in their history (Leonardo Bonucci).
  • Kieran Trippier became the fifth Englishman to start a Champions League game for a Spanish team after David Beckham, Michael Owen, Jonathan Woodgate and Steve McManaman.
  • Aaron Ramsey became the first ever Welshman to play for an Italian team in Champions League history.
  • Stefan Savic netted his first ever Champions League goal in what was his 28th appearance in the competition.

Bayer Leverkusen 1-2 Lokomotiv Moscow

  • By defeating Bayer Leverkusen, Lokomotiv Moscow have ended a run of seven straight defeats against German Clubs and scored as many goals as they managed in that run (2).
  • Lokomotiv Moscow have conceded at least one goal in their last 13 away games in the Champions League, last keeping a clean sheet in September 2002 (v Club Brugge).
  • Lokomotiv Moscow won their match against Bayer Leverkusen with just 22% possession – the lowest such figure for a winning side in the Champions League since Celtic beat Barcelona in November 2012 (15.4% possession).
  • Lokomotiv Moscow won their first away game in the Champions League since October 2002 (v Galatasaray), ending a run of 10 games without victory on the road (D2 L8).
  • Lokomotiv Moscow’s Grzegorz Krychowiak scored his first-ever Champions League goal in what was his 19thappearance in the competition, having previously featured for Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain.

Napoli 2-0 Liverpool

  • Napoli have now won five of their six Champions League home games against English opposition (L1 – a 2-4 defat to Man City in November 2017).
  • Liverpool have lost their opening Champions League match of a new campaign for only the second time (P12 W6 D4 L2), and for the first time since a 0-2 defeat to Valencia in September 2002.
  • Liverpool had more shots in the opening 22 minutes of this match (five) than they managed through the entirety of this exact fixture in the competition last season (four).
  • Liverpool have lost six of their last eight away games in the Champions League (W2), as many as in their previous 25 such matches in the competition.
  • Since the start of last season, only Nicolas Tagliafico (six) has received more yellow cards in the Champions League than Liverpool’s Andy Robertson (four).
  • Napoli striker Dries Mertens has scored more Champions league goals than any other Belgian in the competition (11).
  • Since a 2-0 win over Udinese as Borussia Dortmund boss, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has lost on his last five visits to Italian sides in all competitions (P5 W0 D0 L5).
  • Napoli striker Fernando Llorente has now scored a Champions League goal for four different clubs (Juventus, Sevilla, Spurs and Napoli) – the joint-most sides of all Spaniards alongside Fernando Morientes.

FC Salzburg 6-2 Genk

  • FC Salzburg scored more goals in the opening 45 minutes (five) than they did through the entirety of their last Champions League campaign back in 1994/95 (four goals in six games).
  • Genk (P13 W0 D7 L6), have now played more Champions League matches without ever winning that any other side in the competition’s history.
  • The eight goals scored between Salzburg and Genk is the joint-highest number of goals in a Champions League MD1 encounter along with Hamburg 4-4 Juventus in 2000-01 and Olympiakos 6-2 Bayer Leverkusen in 2002-03.
  • Hwang Hee-Chan, who netted Salzburg’s third goal in the first half, is the first South Korean to score a Champions League goal on their debut.
  • Salzburg’s Erling Haaland - aged 19 years and 58 days - is the third youngest player to score a Champions League hat-trick, behind Raúl (18y 113d in 1995) and Wayne Rooney (18y 340d in 2004).
  • FC Salzburg’s Erling Haaland became the first teenager to score more than once on his Champions League debut since Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick for Manchester United against Fenerbahçe in September 2004.
  • Erling Haaland’s three goals for Salzburg makes him the eighth different player to score a Champions League hat-trick on their debut after Marco van Basten, Faustino Aspirlla, Yakubu, Wayne Rooney, Vincenzo Iaquinta, Grafite, and Yacine Brahimi.

Borussia Dortmund 0-0 Barcelona

  • Borussia Dortmund have failed to score in five of their last six matches in the Champions League, having scored in 12 games in a row before this run.
  • Barcelona have failed to score in their opening match of a Champions League campaign for the first time since 2009-10 against Internazionale – their opponents won the competition that season.
  • Barcelona are now unbeaten in their last 14 Champions League group stage matches against German sides (W11 D3), starting in October 2001 against Bayer Leverkusen.
  • This was Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre’s 10th game as manager in the Champion League – in all 10 matches, at least one side has kept a clean sheet.
  • Marc-André ter Stegen, who kept out a Marco Reus penalty in the 57th minute, has now saved four of the six penalties he has faced in the Champions League.
  • Ansu Fati (16y 321d) has become the first 16-year old to appear for Barcelona in Champions League history, overtaking Bojan (17y 22d) as their youngest ever player in the competition.

Slavia Prague 1-1 Inter

  • Inter Milan have only managed to win one of their last five opening matches of a Champions League campaign (P5 W1 D3 L1).
  • Despite avoiding defeat in three of their last four Champions League games (D3 L1), Slavia Prague are winless in their last six matches in the competition since they beat FCSB in their first ever Champions League encounter back in September 2007 (P6 W0 D3 L3).
  • Nicolò Barella is the tenth different player to score on their Champions League debut for Inter Milan after Youri Djorkaeff, Andy van der Meijde, Julio Cruz, Hernan Crespo, Roberto Baggio, Adriano, Mancini, Mauro Icardi and Matias Vecino.
  • Nicolò Barella’s equaliser (91:47) is Inter Milan’s latest Champions League goal since Giampaolo Pazzini netted against Marseille back in March 2012 (95:28).
  • Slavia Prague’s Peter Olayinka became just the fifth different Nigerian to score on their Champions League debut after Daniel Amokachi, Victor Ikpeba, Lucky Idahor and Yakubu.
  • Peter Olayinka’s opener for Slavia Prague made him the first Nigerian to score on his Champions League debut since Yakubu netted a hat-trick against Olympiakos for Maccabi Haifa back in September 2002.

Benfica 1-2 RB Leipzig

  • Benfica have lost six of their last eight home matches in the Champions League group stages (W1 D1, as many as they had lost in their previous 27 such matches in this competition.
  • RB Leipzig have won their third and fourth away matches in the Champions League by a combined four goals, after losing their first and second by a combined four goals.
  • Benfica have lost five of their last six matches against German opposition in all European competitions (Bayern Munich x2, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt x2 & RB Leipzig).
  • RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner has now scored five goals in his last three away games in the Champions League, also against Monaco (x2) and Porto in 2017-18.
  • RB Leizpig forward Timo Werner has scored seven goals in six appearances in all competitions this season – more than twice as many as any teammate.

Lyon 1-1 Zenit St Petersburg

  • Lyon are the first team in Champions League history to draw six consecutive home matches in the competition.
  • This was Zenit’s first away Champions League draw since December 2011 against Porto, ending a run of 15 matches without a draw (W6 D0 L9).
  • Lyon have lost only one of their last 15 home European matches (W7 D7 L1), a 3-2 defeat to CSKA Moscow in March 2018 in the Europa League.
  • Lyon scored a penalty in a Champions League match for the first time since September 2010, with this their 35th Champions League game since then.
  • Zenit’s Sardar Azmoun scored his third Champions League goal and first since scoring for FC Rostov in November 2016 against Bayern München.
  • Artem Dzyuba has been involved in nine goals in his last nine Champions League appearances for Zenit (6 goals, 3 assists).

Chelsea 0-1 Valencia

  • This was only Chelsea’s second defeat in their last 42 Champions League group stage games at Stamford Bridge (W30 D10 L2), with the other against Basel in 2013.
  • Frank Lampard became the first Chelsea manager to lose his first Champions League match in charge – 10 of the previous 11 had won, while Gianluca Vialli drew with Milan in 1999.
  • Valencia registered only their second away Champions League win in England (W2 D7 L3), with their first since winning 1-0 at Liverpool in October 2002.
  • Chelsea lost their opening Champions League match of a campaign for only the second time, also losing in 2013-14 against Basel.
  • Rodrigo Moreno netted only his third Champions League goal in his 25th appearance in the competition and his first in 10 appearances for Valencia.
  • Ross Barkley was the first Englishman to take a penalty for Chelsea since Frank Lampard in April 2014 against Stoke City – both players missed their penalties.
  • Chelsea became the first team since Liverpool in December 2008 against PSV (Darby, Kelly, Spearing) to hand three Champions League debuts to Englishmen aged 21 or younger in the same game (Abraham, Mount, Tomori).

Ajax 3-0 Lille

  • Ajax ended a run of four home Champions League matches without a win (W0 D2 L2), with this their first since a 1-0 win over Benfica in last season’s group stage.
  • Lille have never won their first Champions League match of a campaign, with this being their sixth attempt (W0 D2 L4).
  • All five of the goals Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico has scored or assisted in the Champions League have come at the Johan Cruyff Arena (4 goals, 1 assist).
  • Ajax midfielder Edson Álvarez became the first Mexican player to score on his Champions League debut.
  • Including qualifiers, Lille are winless in 12 European matches (W0 D6 L6) since winning 2-0 against Grasshopper Club Zürich in a Champions League qualifier in July 2014.
  • Ajax’s Quincy Promes has been involved in five goals in three home Champions League appearances (3 goals, 2 assists).
