Report and match highlights: Manchester City 1-2 Manchester United

Liverpool were handed another huge boost in the race for the Premier League title after Manchester United stunned derby rivals Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City: 1

Otamendi 85'

Manchester United: 2

Rashford 23'; Martial 29'

Jurgen Klopp's side opened up an 11-point gap at the summit with victory over Bournemouth and defending champions City failed to keep the pressure on in the evening kick-off.

Marcus Rashford steered United ahead from the penalty spot in the 23rd minute after VAR adjudged that he was fouled in the box by Bernardo Silva.

And after the England striker clipped the crossbar, fit-again Anthony Martial squeezed an effort under Ederson six minutes later.

City searched for a way back into the match in the second half, scoring through substitute Nicolas Otamendi five minutes from time, but they slipped 14 points off top spot.

Liverpool secured a routine 3-0 win at Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

First-half strikes from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita were followed by Mohamed Salah's 10th goal of the season as the European champions continued their seemingly relentless march towards a first title in 30 years.

Defeat for lowly Bournemouth, who failed to produce an attempt on target, was a fifth in succession and left them just one point above the relegation zone.

Another miserable afternoon for Eddie Howe's side was compounded by apparent hamstring problems suffered by defender Nathan Ake and striker Callum Wilson.

Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson made an immediate impact as Chelsea were beaten 3-1 at Goodison Park.

Ferguson, a hero in the blue half of Merseyside after two playing spells at the club, was in charge after Marco Silva's dismissal on Friday.

The Scot saw Richarlison rise to head Everton into a fifth-minute lead and Dominic Calvert-Lewin doubled the Toffees' advantage soon after the break.

Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic halved the deficit after 52 minutes with his first Premier League goal, but Calvert-Lewin sent Goodison Park into a frenzy with his second goal six minutes from time - and Ferguson celebrated with a touchline dash.

Tottenham bounced back from their midweek defeat at Manchester United by thrashing Burnley 5-0.

Harry Kane scored twice to take his league tally for the campaign to nine and Son Heung-min made a claim for goal of the season with a brilliant individual effort.

Jose Mourinho's side flew out of the traps and were 2-0 ahead inside nine minutes.

Kane found the top corner after four minutes before Lucas Moura tapped home at the back post after Dele Alli had flicked on a loose ball.

Son scored a quite brilliant third after 32 minutes when he picked the ball up on the edge of his own area. The South Korean then slalomed through the Clarets defence to slot home from 15 yards. Kane and Moussa Sissoko completed the rout.

New Watford manager Nigel Pearson was in the stands at Vicarage Road for the goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

⌚️ FT: CITY 1-2 UNITED

Not many expected this result!

City are poor once again but take nothing away from United, they win the derby!

If you thought they weren't out of the title race before, they definitely are now...

🔶 90' - WALKER BOOKED

City are going to run out of time here. Kyle Walker is booked for bringing down Ashley Young. One minute remains...

90' - ADDED TIME!

Manchester City have five minutes to find an equaliser...

🔄 88' - UNITED SUBSTITUTIONS

Luke Shaw and Jesse Lingard are off, Ashley Young and Axel Tuanzebe are on.

86' - BIG SAVE DE GEA!

Wow! It was almost instantly 2-2! Riyad Mahrez cuts inside an unleashes a low effort with his left foot. De Gea gets down to palm the ball away.

Can City get the equaliser? They're backing themselves right now...

⚽️ 85' - GOAL MANCHESTER CITY!

Otamendi strikes from a corner! They have five minutes plus stoppage time...

79' - CITY NOT FANCIED AT ALL

Sky make it 40/1 that City get victory here - 10/1 on the draw.

United are into 1/20 to see it out.

Head here to bet

76' - ANGELINO GOES CLOSE

The ball falls to the left-back who is in the box. He unleashes a shot but it's blocked by Wan-Bissaka and knocked behind.

Can City get one?

🔶 75' - PEREIRA BOOKED

Instant impact of the wrong kind from the substitute. He stops Sterling breaking forward and ends up kicking out at him. A bit lucky that wasn't a red...

🔄 74' - UNITED SUBSTITUTION

Pereira replaces Martial as they look to see this one out...

70' - STERLING GOES DOWN

Sterling goes down under pressure from Maguire but that won't be given. Rightly so. Goal-kick to United.

67' - LINGARD GOES CLOSE

Manchester United still pose that threat going forward and Jesse Lingard troubles Ederson with a shot from a tight angle. The city stopper can only knock the ball behind for a corner.

🔄 65' - CITY SUBSTITUTION

A fresh pair of legs in the forward department. Riyad Mahrez replaces Bernardo Silva.

64' - DE GEA DENIES RODRI

They're getting closer...

City work the ball well across the box and it falls to Rodri outside the area. We saw him strike from distance against Burnley but De Gea gets up to save here.

61' - LINDELOF GETS LUCKY

A shocker form the United defender. His pass is intercepted by Sterling right outside the box. The England forward runs across looking for an angle to shoot from but he can't get anything away and the ball is behind for a corner which United clear.

🔄 59' - CITY SUBSTITUTION

Not one City fans would have wanted... John Stones is off injured, Otamendi is on.

56' - HUGE CHANCE FOR CITY!

De Bruyne is played through but Lindelof makes a hugely important sliding block to deflect the ball over. United clear the initial danger from the corner.

🔶 55' - DE GEA BOOKED

If this is going to be United's mentality in the second-half then it might be a long 35 minutes or so...

De Gea is booked for taking too long from the restart.

52' - CITY CAN'T FIND A WAY THROUGH

They're trying, but you just can't see City scoring at the moment. United are doing well to limit their passing lanes and opportunities on goal.

48' - CITY LOOK FOR AN EARLY ONE

City have seen all of the ball during these past few minutes and threaten from a corner. The ball falls to Angelino but he smashes it over with no issue whatsoever for De Gea.

⌚️ 46' - SECOND-HALF UNDERWAY!

It's a huge task for City to get back into this one.

Can they do it?

🤔 A LOOK BACK AT THE CITY NO PEN...

It's a penalty for me, although it's dividing opinion.

Fred has slide across looking to cross the ball. He's heading to the floor with his arm behind his back. His arm then makes an appearance and that is what blocks the ball and knocks it behind for a corner.

I'm not sure if that's a natural position and it's obviously had an impact on the attack.

Then again, who knows with VAR and how it interprets events...

👀 NEVILLE IS LOVING IT!

⌚️ HT: CITY 0-2 UNITED

This is a huge concern for Manchester City...

Rashford and Martial have given United a deserved lead at the break. The visitors look sharper and are posing more of a threat.

It'll now be a test of if they can hang on against a City team who will come out all guns blazing in the second-half.

The hosts are right to feel annoyed about the lack of a penalty moments before the break.

📺 45' - PENALTY CITY?

Huge moment...

No! Fred stops the ball with his arm but it's somehow not given. That's a poor decision - shock horror with VAR.

45' - ADDED TIME

Can City grab one before the break? Two minutes added on at the end of the first-half.

43' - DE GEA DENIES SILVA

Another City free-kick. This time it's David Silva who steps up and hits it. It's on target but comfortable for De Gea to get across and make the save.

40' - DE BRUYNE FAILS TO HIT THE TARGET

City win a free-kick on the edge of the area after Sterling is brought down.

Up steps De Bruyne and he lifts the ball over the wall. Unfortunately for City, it's over the crossbar too.

38' - JESUS GOES CLOSE!

City are looking to respond here and Gabriel Jesus has just had their best opportunity of the game.

De Bruyne's whips the ball into the box and Jesus gets in between the defence. His diving header is knocked wide.

📺 WATCH THE MARTIAL GOAL

📺 WATCH THE RASHFORD GOAL

⚽️ 29' - GOAL MANCHESTER UNITED!

MARTIAL MAKES IT TWO!

They break forward with pace again. James links up with Martial who drives into the box. He turns and hits the ball between two City defenders.

The ball strikes the post and goes in. What a first-half for United, what a shambles for City!

27' - RASHFORD STRIKES THE BAR!

United should have doubled their lead.

Again, the ball falls to Rashford at the edge of the area. He looks to find the top corner but hits the bar and it's over.

United look a real threat and City look poor.

26' - RASHFORD SO CLOSE

Wow, that was incredibly close to 2-0...

United counter attack well once again with the forward line linking up well.

Rashford is driving forward and the pass finds him at the edge of the area. The forward looks to curl the ball into the bottom corner but gets it wrong and it goes wide.

A huge chance.

24' - UNITED DESERVE THEIR LEAD

City have had spells of possession but United look the more threatening of the two teams.

They've tested Ederson and City have, once again, not been at it so far. Just what is wrong with Pep Guardiola's men this season?

⚽️ 23' - GOAL MANCHESTER UNITED!

Rashford sends Ederson the wrong way from the spot!

🔶 22' - SILVA BOOKED

Bernardo Silva is booked for that tackle. Rashford to take...

👉 21' - PENALTY GIVEN!

MANCHESTER UNITED HAVE A PENALTY!

📺 20' - UNITED PENALTY?

Bernardo Silva challenges Marcus Rashford in the area and it looks like this will be given. The City man takes down Rashford before getting to the ball...

17' - MARTIAL HAS A GO

Ederson is very busy in the opening stages as United show how dangerous they are in attack.

The ball falls to Anthony Martial at the edge of the area. He unleashes a fierce effort but Ederson gets down to make the save.

Not so comfortable for City so far...

15' - NO PENALTY

Lindelof is diving across to block the shot from Sterling and in the process the ball bounces up and hits him in the arm.

There's very little he can do about that and it would have been harsh. No penalty is the verdict.

13' - HANDBALL?

Big shouts for a penalty from the Manchester City players with the ball apparently hitting a defender in the arm.

VAR will of course look at it as play goes on but I'd be surprised if that one is given as a penalty on first glance.

9' - LINGARD CLOSE!

United are having chances here...

Jesse Lingard drives into the box with the ball and shoots from an angle.

That's not beating Ederson though who gets down to save with his leg.

7' - UNITED HAVE SPEED IN ATTACK

This could be problematic for City when United drive forward.

Given Anthony Martial's involvement, alongside Marcus Rashford and Daniel James, United are looking to hit City on the counter attack.

Martial was almost through on goal there but Kyle Walker does well to intervene.

📺 4' - VAR CHECK!

I know, already! City think the ball has hit McTominay's arm but the check is quick to determine there was no issue with the incident.

2' - EARLY UNITED CHANCE!

United had the kick-off but it's City with possession. They're trying to camp themselves in the opposition half as they play the standard possession-based football they do under Guardiola.

Down the other end, United break forward and the ball falls to James. His shot from inside the area isn't troubling Ederson who makes a comfortable save.

⌚️ 1' - KICK-OFF!

Manchester United get us underway at the Etihad!

📺 SOLSKJAER SPEAKS

📺 PEP GUARDIOLA'S VIEW

🔍 OUR 12/1 BEST BET

From our Premier League preview...

"A player who has featured in the City starting line-up in recent weeks is Angelino. The 22-year-old is currently Pep Guardiola's preferred choice at left-back and should start in that position again on Saturday.

"He seems to fit the bill for what they want. A full-back with technical ability who can drive forward and create opportunities in attack, alongside posing a threat of his own with three shots in his last two games.

"The heatmaps show the intent to drive forward. He was a real presence on the left side last time out with large patches in the opposition half.

"The same can also be said for their recent trip to Liverpool. While that ended in defeat, he spent a significant period in the other half of the pitch looking to create in attack.

"Given City's system and a reliance on strong full-back play, there will be a time where Angelino grabs a goal himself. If he's floating around the opposition box, opportunities will feature and he will take one.

"The battle between him and Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be a fascinating one to watch with the latter likely to be pinned back in large spells due to the City man driving forward. It won't be a surprise to see Angelino get the better of him on multiple occasions.

"A best price of 12/1 is available on the City full-back netting anytime here. Good odds for a game played in front of their own supporters."

Best bet: Angelino to score anytime at 12/1
