World Cup of EFL Screamers: Cambridge's Jack Roles wins vote for the best EFL strike of the 2019/20 season

Cambridge's Jack Roles has won Sporting Life's inaugural World Cup of EFL Screamers after beating Leeds United's Luke Ayling in the final.

Roles, on loan from Spurs, edged it with 56% of the vote for his long-range strike against Macclesfield in October, pipping Ayling's volley against Huddersfield and 30 other strikes in the knockout competition to take the title.

Roles came through the competition by finishing runner up to Lynden Gooch in Group D before getting 74% of the vote to beat Bradford's Dylan Connolly in the round of 16.

Roles then get 70% of the vote in the quarter-finals against Blackpool's Connor Ronan and then booked his place in the final with a 62% victory over Preston's Tom Barkhuizen before claiming the title in Wednesday's showpiece.

We started with the best 32 strikes from the 2019/20 Sky Bet EFL season and pitted them in a four team group stage, with the top two of each pool progressing.

In a similar fashion to the World Cup, the group winners came up against runners-up in the round of 16, as we moved closer to a classic cup final - the minnows versus the EFL's giants - to crown Roles' effort as the best EFL goal of the season (so far).
