Hull v Derby

Hull celebrate Kamil Grosicki's goal against Cardiff

Hull have defied expectations so far with many tipping them for relegation following a summer of change.

They do still sit in 15th, but their performances have not necessarily matched the points return in certain games.

That said, recent defeats to QPR and Huddersfield were fair results on the balance of play, although the win over Nottingham Forest highlighted the threat they possess in attack as they created three strong goalscoring chances, converting two.

The 5/4 price on a home win here does hold some appeal after that midweek boost, but on balance it's a market to avoid given the lack of consistency from both these sides so far.

Instead, the 3/1 on a Kamil Grosicki goal is worth taking. The Tigers winger has four to his name so far but finds himself currently on a four-game goalless run, though he's had chances - eight shots unrewarded - and his persistence will pay off again soon.

Performances against QPR and Huddersfield failed to hit his usual heights, but he was a real presence at the City Ground against Forest and it was a similar display against Bristol City earlier in the campaign which proved a precursor to four goals in as many games.

Best bet: Kamil Grosicki to score anytime at 3/1

Opta facts

  • In all competitions, Hull have lost seven of their last nine games against Derby County (W1 D1 L7), losing all three last season (two in the league, one in the League Cup).
  • Derby have won four of their last five away matches against Hull in all competitions (W4 D1 L0) since losing 2-1 in February 2013.
  • Hull have won just one of their last six home league games (D2 L3), beating Sheffield Wednesday 1-0 at the start of the month.
  • Derby haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last seven away league games, failing to win their last five on the road (D3 L2).
  • No Championship team has dropped more points from winning positions this season than Hull City (12), with seven of those dropped points coming at home.
  • Derby’s Chris Martin has scored three goals from four shots in target in seven league appearances this season, one more than he netted for Hull in 30 Championship games in 2018-19 (2 goals).

Peterborough v Coventry

(video no longer available)

Well the good news after backing Peterborough to win the Sky Bet League One title this season is that they are flying and now occupy top spot in England's third tier.

They've also hit the net 34 times in 14 games making them the top scorers in England's top-four divisions - five clear of Pep Guardiola's Manchester City.

It's surprising that a home win is available at even money here and the home side are certainly ones to consider if you're looking for an addition to the weekend accumulator.

Coventry may sit inside the top-six but their away form has been holding them back. The Sky Blues have failed to win any of their six matches on the road this season, putting them 15th in the away standings, and they may struggle again.

The most appealing bet, however, is the 11/2 on George Boyd netting anytime. The veteran midfielder made the switch back to London Road in the summer and has certainly held a presence in the middle of the park.

Boyd has had 21 attempts on goal so far this season, an almost 50/50 split between home and away fixtures, and while yet to strike he's threatening all the time and is worth keeping a close eye on.

With the incredible form of Mohamed Eisa and Ivan Toney, Boyd's efforts have gone a little under the radar in the heart of the midfield. The games against Accrington, Wycome and MK Dons in particular saw him impress but in truth he's been excellent on a regular basis.

This Posh side is one intent on attack and that suits a player with Boyd's attributes. He's demonstrated in the past that ability to strike from distance but he can often be found in the opposition box looking to get a touch towards goal. He could well be rewarded at last.

Best bet: George Boyd to score anytime at 11/2

Opta facts

  • Peterborough have won their last five home league games. They last won six in a row back in October 2001.
  • Coventry are winless in their last eight away league games (D5 L3). Five of their last six have ended level (L1), and the Sky Blues have failed to score in their last three on the road.
  • Three players have scored 10+ goals in League One this season – two of them are Peterborough players (Ivan Toney 11, Mohamed Eisa 10).
