Real Madrid 0-4 Barcelona: Aubameyang double in Clasico thrashing

Barcelona beat Real Madrid in a La Liga Clasico for the first time since 2019 by thrashing them 4-0 at the Bernabeu with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring twice.

The former Arsenal captain scored just before the half-hour mark and Ronald Araujo then struck to give Barca a 2-0 half-time lead.

Ferran Torres, who left Manchester City for the Nou Camp in January, fired in the Catalan club's third just 90 seconds into the second period and it was scarcely believable when Aubameyang made it 4-0 on 51 minutes.

Xavi continues Barca revival

Such a hammering of their rivals was another huge step in Xavi's overhaul of Barcelona, humbling a team on a long unbeaten run sitting atop La Liga.

It was largely thanks to January signings Aubameyang and Torres.

Aubameyang broke the deadlock when he headed in Ousmane Dembele’s cross with 29 minutes gone before Ronald Araujo nodded in from a corner to double the lead.

Two minutes into the second half, Barca hit Madrid on the break, with the moved capped when Aubameyang’s flick was met by a first-time shot from Torres.

Torres then returned the favour four minutes later as Aubameyang dinked a shot over Thibaut Courtois, with VAR awarding the goal after the offside flag had gone up.

Real, who remain nine points clear at the top of the La Liga table, managed to survive to full-time with no further damage.

Barca are now up to third, three points behind second-placed Sevilla having played a game fewer.
