Premier League clubs spent a record £815m in the January transfer window to complete a season of unprecedented investment.
The gross spend for 2023’s window was 90 per cent higher than the previous record of £430m in 2018 and almost triple the previous January window (£295m).
The record for a full season had already been broken by a £1.92billion summer outlay, with that mark soon extended through £2bn for the first time and to an eventual total of £2.8bn – a new all-time high.
Well, I thought I was done for the night, but we FINALLY have the confirmation that we have been waiting for!
Chelsea have signed midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a British-record £106.8million.
It did go beyond the initial 11pm deadline, but the two clubs have reached an agreement that will see Fernandez join on a long-term deal.
I'm signing off for the night, but we still haven't had confirmation of Enzo Fernandez's deal to Chelsea.
Make sure you check sportinglife.com in the morning for all the reaction to that one.
Remember, our DONE DEALS page has all the major deals that have happened in the Premier League, Sky Bet EFL and Europe up until this point.
We'll see you in the morning!
Southampton have announced the signing of forward Kamaldeen Sulemana from Stade Rennais for a reported £25m fee.
The 20-year-old Ghana international has signed a contract until 2027.
"This is another really positive addition for us this month. We’ve obviously been keen to add a little more potency to the side, and Kamaldeen is someone who does that for us," Saints boss Nathan Jones told their club website.
"He’s at a stage in his career where we feel he can help us in the immediate term, but also continue to grow and develop further into the future."
And there we have it, Marcel Sabitzer has joined Manchester United on loan.
"Sometimes in life you have to make quick and important decisions. From the moment I heard about this opportunity I knew it was right for me. I am a competitive player; I want to win and help the club achieve its aims this season," Sabitzer told United's club website.
"I feel that I am at my peak as a player, and that I can contribute a lot of experience and energy to the squad. I am excited to start with my new team-mates and manager and to show my qualities to Manchester United fans."
Brighton have confirmed that Shane Duffy has made a permanent move to Fulham.
The defender has spent the first part of the season on-loan at Craven Cottage.
"Shane has played such an important role during his time at the club. He was a key character in our promotion to the Premier League in his first season here," Seagulls chairman Tony Bloom told their club website.
"He was equally key in helping to establish the club in the Premier League and has always been extremely popular in the dressing room and with Albion fans."
Reports in Germany are saying that the Marcel Sabitzer to Manchester United deal has gone through.
The midfielder will join on a loan deal until the end of the season from Bayern Munich.
It's a straight loan deal - the Old Trafford club will not hold an option to buy.
Marc Albrighton has joined West Brom on loan from Leicester until the end of the season.
"A favourite among the Blue Army, Albrighton has been at the heart of some of the most memorable moments in the Club’s history, most notably the 2015/16 Premier League title win and more recently the Emirates FA Cup triumph in 2020/21," the Foxes said in a statement.
"Albrighton signed a new three-year deal with the Football Club in the summer of 2021, which will see him reach a decade as a Leicester City player in 2024."
Chelsea managed to get the Enzo Fernandez deal sheet in, according to various reports, while also asking for an extension to complete the paperwork.
It should give them enough time to complete the £105m transfer, and it looks like it will get done.
A needed reinforcement at Leicester as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
They've confirmed the arrival of Harry Souttar on a permanent deal from Sky Bet Championship side Stoke.
The Foxes have paid a £15million fee, with the centre-back signing a five-and-a-half-year deal at the King Power.
Another hour, another Nottingham Forest signing.
They have completed a third signing in the final hour or so of the transfer window as Paris St Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas put pen to paper.
After the additions of Atletico Madrid defender Felipe and Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, Navas – a three-time Champions League winner at Real Madrid – signed on loan for the rest of the season.
“Navas, 36, brings a wealth of international and domestic experience to the club, having made 564 appearances in a trophy-laden career,” Forest said on their website, welcoming the Costa Rica international.
So it seemed as if Hakim Ziyech was joining PSG on a loan deal from Chelsea...
However, various reports are claiming that the paperwork wasn't submitted in time, so that deal could be off.
We'll keep an eye on it.
Manchester United are expecting their loan deal for Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer to be completed in time.
Although the transfer deadline closed at 11pm, United have put in a deal sheet which gives them until midnight to finalise their move for the 28-year-old Austria international.
The PA news agency is also reporting that defender Axel Tuanzebe is heading out to Stoke on loan.
Nottingham Forest completed more business before the deadline with the arrival of midfielder Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle.
The 30-year-old England international, who spent seven years on Tyneside, has signed a deal to stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2025.
Shelvey told his new club’s website: “As soon as I found out Forest were interested, it caught my eye straight away and I just couldn’t wait to get down here.
“It’s a fantastic football club that has so much history and I’m really looking forward to getting started.”
The transfer window has SLAMMED SHUT! (I have to say it like that).
We're still expecting moves to happen though, and of course they can go through/be announced even after the 11pm deadline.
We'll be with you for a while still as we await more of the major deals.
And there's the announcement that Spurs fans have been waiting for!
They've confirmed the addition of Pedro Porro from Sporting.
The full-back will join on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to make the deal permanent in the summer.
Yet another signing for Nottingham Forest, as they are set to announce the addition of Keylor Navas from PSG.
The goalkeeper will join on loan until the end of the season, acting as cover for Dean Henderson who is sidelined through injury for a few weeks.
So, it looks as if Chelsea WILL sign Enzo Fernandez this month.
According to various reports, the terms of the deal are:
And in the actual football played tonight...
Sean Longstaff’s priceless double fired Newcastle to a first League Cup final in 47 years as Bruno Guimaraes was sent off on a night of mixed emotions.
He was a 'free agent' for less than 20 minutes.
Ok, I know that wasn't really the case, but Matt Doherty has now been confirmed as an Atletico Madrid player.
So that's Bellerin and Doherty done in this right-back move around involving Tottenham...
Crystal Palace have completed a loan deal for Arsenal midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga until the end of the season.
The Eagles confirmed the 23-year-old’s move on their official website.
Sambi Lokonga joined Arsenal from Anderlecht in a £15million deal in July 2021 and has made 39 appearances for the Gunners in all competitions.
Former Arsenal full-back Hector Bellerin is on the move - he's joined Sporting.
With Doherty's departure, we should now see an announcement soon from Tottenham about Pedro Porro joining.
Bellerin is Porro's replacement at the Portuguese club.
Tottenham have confirmed the permanent departure of Matt Doherty.
"We have mutually agreed to the termination of Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join another club," Spurs said in a statement.
"We should like to thank Matt for his service and wish him well for the future."
Doherty’s departure was set to be a loan – with Atletico Madrid his potential destination – but that would have taken Tottenham up to nine players out on loan and FIFA’s limit is eight.
It's the final hour of the 2023 January transfer window!
The biggest potential move is from that last update - Enzo Fernandez moving to Chelsea for what may well be a record transfer.
We're also waiting for Manchester United to announce Marcel Sabitzer and Tottenham to do the same with Pedro Porro.
It could well be happening!
Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Chelsea and Benfica have reached an agreement for Enzo Fernandez.
The two clubs are now trying to get the paperwork sorted before the 23:00 deadline.
Bournemouth have made Ivory Coast midfielder Hamed Traore their sixth January signing.
The 22-year-old has joined from Serie A outfit Sassuolo on an initial loan deal which will become permanent in the summer for a further five years.
Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club website: “Hamed is another exciting prospect and we are delighted to have secured his services.
“He is young, ambitious and one of the hottest talents from Serie A. He fits the profile of the type of player we are looking to recruit and will significantly add to our creative resources.”
PSG have agreed a deal to sign Hakim Ziyech on loan from Chelsea, according to The Athletic.
The Ligue 1 giants will pay a fee to bring him in on temporary terms, although they will not hold an option to make the deal permanent.
A number of clubs were interested in the winger, who is now looking for more regular football following an influx of signings at Stamford Bridge.
Nottingham Forest have signed Atletico Madrid defender Felipe.
The 33-year-old, who has won league titles in Portugal and Spain, has agreed a deal to stay at the City Ground until the summer of 2024.
“It was a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and I’m really excited to be part of this wonderful, fast-growing club,” Felipe told the Forest website.
“You can see it’s a club looking to really grow. It’s a big challenge for me and I made a clear decision to be part of the history here and grow with the club.”
Back to Everton, who have had a late bid for Ismaila Sarr rejected by Watford.
That's according to The Athletic, who claim that the Toffees wanted to bring him in on loan with the intention of a permanent deal in the summer.
Everton wanted to pay £2million to sign Sarr on loan for the rest of the season, with an obligation to buy for £30million in the next window.
Chelsea are still pushing to complete a deal for Enzo Fernandez, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues and Benfica remain in negotiations over a potential deal for the midfielder, who had permission to undergo a medical in Portugal.
Chelsea officials have been in Lisbon trying to get it concluded, and it will have to be sorted there if the player is to move.
It looks as if Everton's hunt for a forward is going to be an unsuccessful one.
The Toffees need reinforcements as they aim to avoid relegation from the Premier League.
But as we approach the final hour and a half of the window, very little noise is coming out of Goodison Park.
Crystal Palace have signed Stuttgart midfielder Naouirou Ahamada on a three-and-a-half-year deal, subject to international clearance.
The 20-year-old France youth international began his career in the Juventus academy before moving to Stuttgart two years ago.
Ahamada told the Palace website: “I’m very happy to have joined this club. It is an amazing club, and I’m very excited to get started.
“I want to show my quality, and I want to help this team with my quality. I want to play games, work hard, train hard and progress, and help the team.”
It's starting to get busier now, and we're awaiting a few of those bigger deals to go through.
Jorginho has joined Arsenal from Chelsea in the last hour, and we're expecting some potential news from Stamford Bridge, Manchester United and Tottenham.
Hibernian have announced the loan signing of United States international striker Matthew Hoppe from Middlesbrough.
The 21-year-old striker former Schalke 04 and Mallorca player, who has eight caps, has moved to Edinburgh for the rest of the season.
Hibs manager Lee Johnson said: “We’re delighted to add Matthew to the group as he’s someone that’ll add extra quality in the final third.
“He’s a talented player that can play in all three positions across our front line and someone that joins with good experience being a full US international and that has played regularly in the Bundesliga.”
Bournemouth have completed the signing of Ukraine defender Illia Zabarnyi from Dynamo Kyiv.
The 20-year-old, capped 24 times by his country, has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Vitality Stadium and becomes the Cherries’ fifth January transfer addition.
Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club website: "We are absolutely delighted to bring Illia to the club and he arrives with a burgeoning CV.
"Despite only being 20, he has played at the highest level for club and country and has established himself as one of the most sought-after young defenders in the world."
This feels VERY deadline day.
French publication L'Equipe are reporting that Everton are in advanced talks to sign André Ayew.
The 33-year-old has just left Qatar Stars League club Al Sadd, with four goals in ten games for them last season.
Newcastle are well on their way to Wembley.
Sean Longstaff has put them 2-0 up on aggregate just minutes into the second leg.
And there we go!
Arsenal have completed the signing of Jorginho from Chelsea.
The midfielder joins for a reported £12m fee - signing an 18-month deal in north London.
We await the completion of some of those major deals...
Fulham have completed the signing of Saša Lukić from Torino.
The midfielder has made the switch to Craven Cottage on a four-and-a-half-year deal, with the club holding the option for a further 12 months.
"I’m very happy to have signed, and to now be a part of Fulham’s squad," Lukić told the club website.
"I can’t wait to get started and meet with the Head Coach, the players, and the staff, and I’m looking forward to training with them when I arrive in England."
It's fair to say that Everton are probably at the desperation stage for a signing right now.
Having seen Anthony Gordon depart for Newcastle in a £40m deal in recent days, you imagine that they would have reinvested with the aim of avoiding the drop.
Reports in Italy are linking them with a move for Roma winger Nicolò Zaniolo, who is clearly no longer in their plans.
Bournemouth pulled out of a deal to sign him, and it's difficult to see anything going through at this late stage unless talks are at a very advanced stage.
Fulham are finally set to complete the signing of Cedric Soares on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, according to The Athletic.
News emerged last week that Marco Silva was interested in bringing the full-back to Craven Cottage.
Fulham already have two players on loan though, but they look set to solve the problem by turning Shane Duffy's deal from Brighton into a permanent one.
Leicester forward Ayoze Perez has joined LaLiga side Real Betis for the rest of the season subject to league and international clearance.
Perez joined Leicester from Newcastle in July 2019 and was part of the side that won the FA Cup in 2021.
The 29-year-old has made 114 appearances for the Foxes, scoring 15 goals.
But Perez’s first-team opportunities have become increasingly limited at the King Power Stadium and he has made only 13 appearances this season.
Southampton are on the verge of signing Genk striker Paul Onuachu, according to The Athletic.
The Saints have seen an £18.5million bid accepted by the Belgian club, with the 28-year-old reportedly keen on moving to the Premier League.
Onuachu is undergoing a medical in France with the aim of completing the deal ahead of the deadline.
Still nothing in terms of confirmed major deals, but that sets us up for an entertaining final few hours of the window.
As expected, Manchester United have now agreed a deal with Bayern Munich to sign Marcel Sabitzer.
The midfielder will be joining on a straight loan deal as cover for the injured Christian Eriksen - that will contain no option to buy.
Personal terms have already been accepted too, so this seems like one that will be completed not long after Sabitzer has landed in Manchester.
Yes, we're all glued to transfer news but there is actual football being played tonight.
The biggest game sees Newcastle hosting Southampton in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final, with Eddie Howe's side holding a 1-0 advantage.
We've got a full preview with a best bet on site - which you can READ HERE.
While Ziyech is facing a race against time to seal a move away, one player who doesn't appear to be going is Conor Gallagher.
Yesterday, Everton reportedly submitted a bid around the £45m mark to bring the midfielder to Goodison Park but he rejected it.
As they are unwilling to do a deal with Newcastle, a club they consider to be top-four rivals, it looks like Gallagher will be staying at Stamford Bridge until at least the summer.
This is a deal that is now battling the clock.
BBC Sport reports that PSG's attempts to sign Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech are 'not progressing at pace'.
The player is in Paris ready to complete a move, but the Blues are haggling over the terms of a deal.
The Ligue 1 deadline is after the Premier League one, so they do have a little bit more time to get it done.
Remember, you can see every deal that has gone through today by looking on our DONE DEALS PAGE.
The link will always be at the top of this page, and it's separated by league so you can see what has been happening across the Premier League, Sky Bet EFL, Scotland and Europe.
Crystal Palace are set to compete the signing of Arsenal's Albert Sambi Lokonga.
The midfielder completed a medical this afternoon and will join on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Lokonga made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners during the first part of the campaign, with the majority of his minutes coming in the Europa League.
All the logistics are in place for Marcel Sabitzer to join Manchester United, with the club having transport in place at Manchester Airport.
Plenty of fans will be on the flight tracker apps already, finding any plane departing Munich for Manchester.
Four hours on the clock when he arrives. You imagine they will get it done though...
Alessia Russo has remained a Manchester United player after Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal tried to sign the England striker before the transfer deadline.
The Gunners had been looking to bolster their attack and launched a big-money bid for Russo a few days ago.
That bid was rejected by United, as was a follow-up world record offer – reported to be just under £500,000 – and Russo was still a United player when the transfer window closed at 5pm on Tuesday.
That deal would have surpassed the £350,000-£400,000 initially thought to have been paid by Barcelona to sign England team-mate Keira Walsh from Manchester City in September.
We're still waiting for official confirmation that Jorginho has joined league leaders Arsenal from Chelsea.
Another one that looks increasingly likely to go through is Marcel Sabitzer to Manchester United. It appears to be a straight loan for the Bayern Munich midfielder.
And then, of course, there is the potential record deal that would see Enzo Fernandez join Chelsea from Benfica.
A departure at Elland Road. Diego Llorente has joined Roma on a loan deal with the view to a permanent switch in the summer.
"We wish Diego all the best during his time at the Stadio Olimpico," Leeds said in a statement on their website.
The West Yorkshire club welcomed young defender Diogo Monteiro earlier in the day, but could they be looking to source a first team replacement before the 11pm deadline?
That said, Max Wöber joined earlier in the window.
Stade Rennais have completed the signing of Tottenham full-back Djed Spence.
The Ligue 1 side have brought in the 22-year-old on a loan deal until the end of the season.
He'll link up with Spurs team mate Joe Rodon, who made the switch to the French club in the summer window.
Brentford forward Sergi Canos has completed a loan switch to Greek Super League side Olympiacos for the rest of the season.
The 25-year-old – who joined from Norwich in January 2017, having earlier also had a loan spell with the Bees while at Liverpool – has found chances limited this term, making only six appearances.
Brentford director of football Phil Giles said on the club’s website: “We would like to wish Sergi all the best for the second half of the season. He has not played as many games this season as he would have liked and this is a great opportunity for him.
“We have the option to extend Sergi’s contract in the summer so it is very possible that we will see him back with us.”
Manchester United are closing in on an agreement to sign Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich, according to The Athletic.
The midfielder is set to join the Old Trafford club on loan for the remainder of the season.
United boss Erik ten Hag earlier played down talk of any potential incomings on deadline day, following the news of Christian Eriksen's injury, but it looks as if they are going to bring in a replacement.
One we'll certainly be following as the deadline approaches...
Duncan Watmore has joined Millwall on a permanent deal.
The forward has left Middlesbrough - where he was out of contract in the summer.
The 28-year-old made 21 Sky Bet Championship appearances for Boro this season - ten of which were starts - scoring five goals from 4.91 xG.
Rangers have confirmed the signing of Belgium under-21 midfielder Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege.
The Ibrox side say they have signed the 21-year-old “for an undisclosed fee on a long-term contract, subject to a work permit being confirmed”.
Raskin told his new club’s website: “I feel very excited to be here and I also feel very proud to join a very big club. I’m looking forward to playing at Ibrox. It was very exciting when I was told of Rangers’ interest because it’s a big club.”
In England and Spain at least, with our deadline set at 23:00.
The window has now 'SLAMMED SHUT' in Germany (as I'm contractually obliged to say when making any reference to the end of a window).
That is only for incomings though, so outgoings are still possible until midnight...
Get those flight tracker apps at the ready!
Marcel Sabitzer is at Munich airport preparing to travel to England ahead of a potential move from Bayern, according to Sky Germany.
Manchester United are keen on completing a deal for the midfielder with Christian Eriksen sidelined through injury until the latter stages of the campaign.
This is genuinely a huge deadline day deal story, and it's one that could well be happening.
The Athletic are reporting that there is "heightened optimism" that an agreement between Benfica and Chelsea can be found for Enzo Fernandez.
The big-spending Blues have targeted the Argentina international as they aim to bolster their midfield ranks.
Fernandez has been given permission to undergo a medical in Portugal while the two clubs aim to complete the deal.
Not one, not two, but THREE announcements in ONE tweet from Aston Villa!
Two of those are players departing, with Marvelous Nakamba joining Luton and Aaron Ramsey linking up with Middlesbrough - both of those are loan deals until the end of the season.
The Premier League club also confirmed that Bertrand Traoré has been recalled from his loan spell at İstanbul Başakşehir.
Joao Cancelo has played down suggestions a rift with Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola prompted his surprise deadline-day loan move to Bayern Munich.
The versatile Portugal full-back joined the German giants for the remainder of the season on Tuesday with a view to a permanent switch in the summer.
“My decision had to do with the playing time that had been little in recent weeks,” Cancelo told reporters as he was officially unveiled as a Bayern player at a press conference in Germany.
“There was speculation that my relationship with Pep was not the best but fact is I wanted to play more. I wanted to start this new adventure as soon as possible.”
Everton are looking at a move for Reading striker Lucas Joao, according to the Daily Mail.
The Toffees are one of those you could say are desperate for recruits prior to the deadline, and their forward search has taken them to the Sky Bet Championship.
Joao has made 22 league appearances this season - 11 of which were starts - scoring five goals from 3.17 xG.
So says social media, but we've been expecting this one at some stage this afternoon.
Such is the modern day transfer window, the agent having a photo with his player and then putting it up on Instagram seemingly always comes before the official announcement.
Tom on for the remainder of the day, taking you right up until the transfer deadline and beyond.
It's been busy so far, as you'd expect, but there are a number of deals that we're still expecting to go through.
Jorginho is set to join Arsenal, while Manchester United are chasing Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern as they aim to replace to injured Christian Eriksen.
Deadline day in the past has taught us that a number of deals crop up in the final six hours or so - it should be good!
Manchester United have no intention of selling star striker Alessia Russo to Women’s Super League rivals Arsenal before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
The Gunners have been looking to bolster their attack and launched a big-money bid for the England international a few days ago.
That offer was rejected by United and Arsenal have reportedly made a world record offer of just under £500,000 for Russo.
Everton, West Ham and Leeds have enquired about the possibility of signing Kalvin Phillips on loan from Man City this month, according to The Sun.
The midfielder has played just eight times since joining from Leeds, but Pep Guardiola is said to see his as a valuable asset for the busy schedule his side will have to contend with when the Champions League returns.
Manchester United are reportedly confident they will be able to get a deal done for Marcel Sabitzer before the closing of the transfer window.
As reported below, Sabitzer is seemingly available this window, and United are discussing a loan for the Austrian with Bayern Munich.
According to Sky Germany, Manchester United and Chelsea have both enquired about signing Bayern Munich midfielder Marcel Sabitzer.
United are looking for a midfielder after the news broke earlier around Christian Eriksen's lengthy absence, while Chelsea may be looking for an alternative for Enzo Fernandez with Benfica still playing hardball.
Or, for Chelsea, it could be a bluff to put some pressure on the Portuguese side by suggesting they will walk away from the Fernandez deal.
Either way, it's still unsure as to whether Sabitzer will be allowed to leave Bayern.
The Austrian has started just seven league games this season, appearing in a further eight as a substitute.
Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is likely to be sidelined until early May with an ankle injury, the club have announced.
Eriksen left Old Trafford on crutches on Saturday after being caught by Reading striker Andy Carroll in the FA Cup fourth-round tie.
A United statement read: “Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.
“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.”
Kamaldeen Sulemana has chosen to join Southampton over a host of other clubs, including Everton.
Talks remain ongoing between the clubs to finalise his deal from Rennes.
There is confidence on all sides this will be done and he can then travel from France to the UK to do a medical.
Joao Cancelo has left Manchester City for Bayern Munich on loan until the end of the season.
It is reported Bayern have an option to by the Portuguese international for around £62m in the summer.
After Arsenal's deal with Chelsea to sign Jorginho was reported to be nearing completion, the odds on Moises Caicedo moving to the Emirates have drifted greatly.
The day started with the Ecuadorian 5/4 to join up with Mikel Arteta, but it is now 6/1 for that to happen, with the midfielder 1/10 to stay at Brighton.
Chelsea - who, according to this morning's Paper Talk, wanted to sign both Caicedo and Fernandez - are at 16/1 to sign him on Deadline Day.
Southampton had met the release clause of Braga forward Vitinha last night, but they now face competition from Marseille, who have also met the clause.
The decision is now down to the player.
The 22-year-old striker has netted seven times for Braga this season, averaging an xG per 95 minutes of 0.45.
Jorginho is close to a move from Chelsea to Arsenal, with the Italian set to sign an 18-month contract with the Gunners.
The fee is in the region of £12m, and Mikel Arteta's side appear to have got some midfield depth secured - a must for the Gunners given their injury list.
This one has come a little out of left-field, with it being reported that Tottenham wing-back Matt Doherty is in Madrid to complete a loan move to Atletico!
With Pedro Porro on the verge of joining Spurs, it appears the club are set to move out one of their existing wing-backs.
Fulham are set for a busy Deadline Day, with a deal agreed for Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic and a medical booked in for him today.
The Cottagers are also in talks with FC Twente to sign right-back Joshua Brenet as a late alternative to Cedric Soares, with the club yet to find an agreement with Arsenal and the player.
In terms of outgoings, Nathaniel Chalobah is having a medical at West Brom ahead of a permanent move, while Josh Onomah is set to agree to terminate his contract.
Arsenal are close to agreeing a deal with Chelsea for midfielder Jorginho.
All parties are willing and hopeful a move will be done in time, with the Italian into the final six months of his contract at Stamford Bridge.
He is not seen as an alternative to Moises Caicedo.
Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is having a medical at Luton ahead of a loan move for the remainder of the season.
The Zimbabwean hasn't featured at all for Villa this season.
Brazilian winger Marquinhos has joined Norwich City for the remainder of the 2022/23 season from Premier League leaders Arsenal.
The teenager joined Arsenal in June 2022 on a long-term deal from São Paulo and has since made six appearances for Mikel Arteta's side.
Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Atletico Madrid over the signing of experienced Brazil centre back Felipe.
The 33-year-old had only five months remaining on his existing contract in Spain, and will fly to the UK later for a medical.
Brighton have reiterated their 'not for sale' stance ahead of Deadline Day.
According to sources, the Seagulls are adamant the midfielder is not for sale.
Arsenal have already had two bids rejected, and the rumors this morning were that Chelsea wanted to hijack the Gunners deal (again).
Leicester are close to completing a deal for Nathan Opoku - a 21-year-old striker from Syracuse University in America.
He turned down the chance to be first draft pick in the MLS to join Leicester.
Opoku will sign a contract this morning, before spending the rest of the campaign on loan at the Foxes sister club, Leuven,
After landing left-back Matias Vina on-loan from Roma late last night, Bournemouth have agreed a deal with Dinamo Kiev to sign Ukrainian centre-back Ilya Zabarnyi.
The deal is worth around £24m for the 20-year-old, who heads to the UK to complete his medical.
Let's get underway with today's Paper Talk.
The big headline is that Chelsea are weighing up a move for Arsenal target (no surprise there - see Mudryk saga) Moises Caicedo as well as Enzo Fernandez!
Read more below:
Hello hello, and welcome to Deadline Day!
There are sure to be some interesting late deals, so stick around to stay up to date.
That's all from us today, be sure to tune in early for our Deadline Day coverage!
It is being reported that there has been no further bid from Arsenal for Moises Caicedo today.
Brighton are holding firm in their valuation of the midfielder, meaning there could be some last-gasp bidding on Deadline Day.
Chelsea have stated to Benfica they are willing to pay the release clause to sign Enzo Fernandez, with Benfica manager Roger Schmidt admitting there's little the Portuguese side can do if the clause is met.
"We all know that we have a situation with Enzo that he has a clause in the contract, so that means if the player wants and there's a club who pays this amount of money, you cannot stop that.
"Of course, for this moment, you have to be prepared, we have to find solutions, but at the moment, he's our player, there's no deal. We will see what happens in the next two days and I'm happy when the transfer window is closed and we can focus completely on the players in the squad and we can try to play a top season."
What would Chelsea be getting? Well, we took a look for you:
Yes, that's Harry Maguire.
It is being reported that Inter Milan are exploring the possibility of signing the Manchester United centre-back on loan.
It is being reported that Chelsea have made a bid for Enzo Fernandez.
The bid is an eye-watering £105m...
Tom logging off for the day, and I'll be back for the final stretch of deadline day tomorrow.
The team will guide you through the rest of today. Enjoy!
A potentially huge deal that we may see on deadline day.
Everton have submitted a bid to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The deal is made up of £40m plus a potential £5m in add-ons, with the Stamford Bridge club set to make a decision given the mounting interest.
It looks like the Toffees - who just announced Sean Dyche's appointment - are going to spend the Anthony Gordon fee on one player.
Everton have announced the appointment of former Burnley boss Sean Dyche as their new manager to replace Frank Lampard.
Lampard was sacked last Monday after a run of nine defeats in 12 Premier League matches and Dyche has taken over after signing a two-and-a-half-year contract at Goodison Park.
Former Leeds head coach Marcelo Bielsa was in the running to become Everton’s eighth permanent manager in just under seven years but, following extended negotiations, it became apparent the Argentinian’s proposals did not match those of the club’s.
Wolves have completed the signing of Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes from Flamengo.
That move - which is subject to work permit and international clearance - makes him Julen Lopetegui’s sixth addition of the January transfer window.
Wolves have confirmed that Gomes has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.
Bonus points for the announcement video too...
Jonjo Shelvey was undergoing a medical at Nottingham Forest on Monday lunchtime ahead of an expected move from Newcastle.
The 30-year-old has been made available having made only three Premier League appearances this season, with his contract running out this summer.
At a press conference, Forest manager Steve Cooper said: “I won’t deny Jonjo is having a medical because I think you’ve all seen him so it would be wrong for me to do that.
“We’ve got to respect the process and if that process is completed, we’ll talk openly about that.”
Brighton have completed the signing of Swedish midfielder Yasin Ayari on a four-and-a-half year deal.
The 19-year-old joins from AIK, where he's made 47 appearances - scoring five goals and assisted a further two.
Technical director David Weir told their club's website: “Yasin is a versatile and technical midfield player, who is good on the ball and capable of playing across the midfield.
“He will need time to settle here and acclimatise to the Premier League, but we are really looking forward to working with him.”
Chelsea have been incredibly busy this month but, by all accounts, they aren't done yet.
Enzo Fernandez is the latest player they have their sights set on, with their interest earlier in the winter window seemingly going nowhere.
Yet, as we approach deadline day, reports claim that they are in advanced talks with Benfica about signing the midfielder - with odds of 8/11 available that he completes the move.
Should a move go through before the 11pm deadline, he could become Chelsea's SEVENTH signing of the window.
The January transfer window has already been a busy one for Premier League clubs with a significant amount spent by those in the top-flight.
According to the odds, what other deals are expected to go through on deadline day?
Southampton boss Nathan Jones has given short shrift to reports striker Che Adams could be sold to relegation rivals Everton.
Adams, Saints’ top scorer with eight goals this term, has been linked with a move to Goodison Park before Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Everton and Southampton are joint-bottom of the Premier League table with just 15 points and, while both clubs are keen to strengthen their squads, Jones insists there is no chance of his side helping the Toffees.
“Let’s be honest, that’s not going to happen,” said Jones, bluntly, at a press conference to preview the second leg of his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final against Newcastle.
Wow! We were expecting this story to come through today.
Bayern Munich are set to complete the signing of Joao Cancelo from Manchester City, according to The Athletic.
The full-back will join on an initial loan deal which is likely to include a buy option. He's featured in 26 games in all competitions this season.
Even with limited minutes in recent weeks, I think it's fair to say that nobody was expecting him to depart to the current Bundesliga champions.
The latest in our 'Cutting Through' series puts focus on Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.
Linked with a move to Tottenham, what would he bring to the Premier League side? And would he improve their defence?
We delve into the numbers to work out what they might tell us.
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has ruled out selling Allan Saint-Maximin during the remaining days of the January transfer window.
Speculation mounted during the club’s pursuit of Everton forward Anthony Gordon, who completed his switch to St James’ Park in a deal which is understood could eventually amount to £45million on Sunday, that the 25-year-old Frenchman could be allowed to leave.
However, head coach Howe said: “Absolutely not. He’s here to stay. He’s an integral part of my team.”
Roberto De Zerbi says that Brighton are ready to move on without Moises Caicedo, according to The Sun.
That gives Arsenal fresh hope ahead of Deadline Day, with the Gunners reportedly seeing a second bid turned down by the Brighton on Sunday.
Caicedo took to social media over the weekend to claim that he wanted a move away, but the high-flying Seagulls do not want to sell this month.
Fulham are closing in on deal to sign Torino's Saša Lukić, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The duo have seen talks enter the final stage, with the Premier League club set to pay a £8.8million fee.
Personal terms aren't expected to be an issue, and the midfielder is set to fly into London to conclude the deal today.
Roma are closing in on the signing of Leeds defender Diego Llorente.
Reports in Italy claim that the Serie A club are set to bring in the centre-back on a loan deal with the option to buy.
Llorente recently signed a new deal with the Elland Road club, but that could be adding to his value ahead of the move away - with Leeds 'set to recoup at least the £18m they paid for him'.
Sander Berge is set to leave Sheffield United after Paul Heckingbottom left him out of the side that faced Wrexham in the FA Cup.
The Sun reports that Premier League clubs Fulham and Newcastle are interested in the midfielder.
Berger has scored four goals from 2.60 xG in the Sky Bet Championship this season, adding a further three assists.
Crystal Palace are set to complete the signing of Naouirou Ahamada.
The Premier League club will pay a reported £10.5million fee to Stuttgart for the midfielder.
Ahamada has scored two goals and contributed a further two assists in the Bundesliga this season.
Nottingham Forest have reached an agreement with Newcastle for midfielder Jonjo Shelvey.
Various reports claim that the player will travel to complete a medical and sign a two-and-a-half year deal today.
Shelvey will become Forest's SIXTH central midfield signing this season, and that's not including the more attacking additions...
Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls West Brom are eyeing up a double loan swoop ahead of the deadline, according to the Daily Mail.
They’ve got their sights set on Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien and Fulham’s Nathaniel Chalobah.
Carlos Corberan has guided the Baggies to 10th in England’s second-tier following a poor start to the season, and they’re aiming for further recruits before Tuesday night.
Barcelona could scupper Chelsea’s chances of securing a permanent deal for Joao Felix with the LaLiga giants keen on the Portugal star.
That’s according to The Sun, with the Atletico Madrid star a wanted man despite being on a straight loan at Stamford Bridge.
Felix joined Chelsea for a reported £10m fee this month for the remainder of the season but was sent off on his debut against Fulham.
It's Deadline Day Eve (is that a thing?)
Tom on with the blog for the first part of the day, and we'll kick things off with the top line from Monday's Paper Talk.
Tottenham have reportedly submitted a late offer to Bayer Leverkusen for the services of Piero Hincapie.
Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi insists the club must keep wantaway midfielder Moises Caicedo if they are to maintain their bid for a place in Europe.
The Ecuador international, 21, has made public his desire to join Arsenal following Albion's rejection of a £60m bid from the Premier League leaders.
Albion, currently sixth, knocked out FA Cup holders Liverpool to reach the fifth round on Sunday.
Leandro Trossard has already joined Arsenal this month and Caicedo is now keen to join him.
“Caicedo is a very good guy. I understand it when you are 21 and the chance of a big team in Europe but I would like him to finish the season with us," said De Zerbi.
“We lost Trossard and if we also lose Caicedo it’s a problem for us if we want to fight for Europe. If we don’t lose Caicedo we are ready to fight.”
Newcastle have completed the signing of Everton forward Anthony Gordon, the clubs have announced.
The 21-year-old has signed what Newcastle described as a “long-term” deal which is understood to be worth an initial £40million, with £5million of add-ons.
As expected, Moises Caicedo was missing from the Brighton squad for their FA Cup match against Liverpool after being told to stay away from the club until the window closes on Tuesday night.
The Ecuador international, 21, has made public his desire to join Arsenal following Albion's rejection of a £60m bid from the Premier League leaders.
But speaking before their meeting with Liverpool, Roberto De Zerbi said he still hopes to keep the wantaway midfielder.
“Moises is a good guy, we will see tomorrow and the next days what happens," the Brighton boss explained.
"We hope he stays with us until the end of the season. In life you can make mistake. For everyone there are many solutions. We will see the best solution for him and for us.”
Caicedo's stunning form since joining Brighton has seen him become one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League this month.
Chelsea have completed the signing of France under-21 right-back Malo Gusto from Lyon, where the 19-year-old will finish the season on loan.
Gusto, who has signed a deal until 2030, is the club's seventh January signing after the arrivals of Mykhaylo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos and Joao Felix.
It would appear Blues chairman Todd Boehly, who has now spent more than £400m since completing his takeover last summer, has followed our advice from the beginning of the window to back his new manager:
Manchester United could yet be forced into the market in the final few days of the window, with midfielder Christian Eriksen expected to have a scan on his ankle after leaving Old Trafford on crutches following Saturday’s 3-1 FA Cup victory over Reading.
The Denmark midfielder sustained a knock at the start of the second half and was then caught on the ankle by Reading forward Andy Carroll, who saw red in the second half of the match for two other bookable offences.
Eriksen has established himself as a key part of United’s revamped midfield since his summer arrival from Brentford, recording nine assists from 4.54 expected assists (xA) in 25 appearances in the Premier League and Europa League.
Leicester have signed Brazil Under-23 winger Tete on a deal to the end of the season, subject to international clearance.
The 22-year-old is contracted to Shakhtar Donetsk, but has been at Lyon since March 2022 under the FIFA ruling which allowed all foreign players to suspend their contracts in Ukraine following Russia’s invasion. He is currently due to return to Shakhtar on July 1.
Tete, who will become the first Brazilian to play for Leicester, has made an incredible impact since arriving in France, scoring eight goals (6.21 xG) and providing nine assists (3.0 xA) in 26 Ligue 1 appearances.
Burnley have completed the signing of striker Michael Obafemi on loan from Swansea with an option to make the move permanent in the summer.
The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in 52 appearances for the Swans since joining from Southampton 18 months ago, and should boost Burnley’s promotion charge as Vincent Kompany’s side sit top of the Sky Bet Championship.
Obafemi becomes Burnley’s fourth signing of the January window following the arrivals of Ameen Al-Dakhil, Hjalmar Ekdal and Lyle Foster.
