West Brom have appointed Sam Allardyce as their new head coach following the sacking of Slaven Bilic on Wednesday.
Allardyce has been out of work since leaving Everton in 2018, but he has established a reputation of helping teams to avoid relegation from England's top-flight.
The 66-year-old has agreed terms on an 18-month contract, which is reported to have a break clause in it at the end of the season. He will take training on Thursday in preparation for the weekend and is joined at the club by long-time assistant Sammy Lee.
West Brom have struggled on their return to the Premier League and sit 19th on seven points following Tuesday’s surprise 1-1 draw against Manchester City at the Etihad.
Speaking about the appointment, West Brom's Sporting and Technical Director, Luke Dowling, said: "In Sam we have a man who has a proven Premier League pedigree with a track record of improving every club he has managed.
"We believe and, more importantly, Sam believes we have a group of players that have the quality needed to give the club its best chance of Premier League survival."
Bilic, 52, became the first managerial departure of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
Having taken charge in the summer of 2019, the former Croatia and West Ham boss ended his first season at the Baggies helm with automatic promotion as Sky Bet Championship runners-up.
West Brom face Aston Villa in a West Midlands derby at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
