The Unibet Premier League Darts season is over, with Jonny Clayton crowned champion after defeating fellow debutant Jose de Sousa on a dramatic Finals Night.

The Ferret, who finished fourth in the table, beat regular season table-topper Michael van Gerwen in the semi-final before overcoming Nathan Aspinall's conqueror to pick up the winners' cheque of £250,000.

Live crowds also returned for the final week of a season which didn't feature Gerwyn Price after he tested positive for Covid-19 on the eve of the tournament and was subsequently replaced by UK Open champion James Wade.

Can I buy tickets for the Premier League Darts?

Live crowds will return to PDC events for the first time in 2021 for the conclusion of the Unibet Premier League from May 24-28.

Step 3 of the UK Government's Roadmap out of Lockdown from May 17 onwards is set to allow sporting events in indoor venues of up to 1,000 fans.

Tickets will go on Priority Sale to PDCTV Annual Subscribers* from 1200 BST on Wednesday May 5 and on General Sale from 1200 BST on Thursday May 6, with bookings of up to six people per transaction permitted (full T&Cs below).

A Covid-secure environment at the Marshall Arena will include socially-distanced tables, a requirement for face coverings to be worn, table service for food & beverage, one-way walking routes and pre-entry screening.

Tickets will be priced at £30 per person for May 24-26, £35 per person for May 27 and £40 per person for the Play-Offs on May 28.

Reigning champion Glen Durrant headlined the first nine competitors confirmed by the PDC following the World Championship final - but Jonny Clayton bagged the last spot after clinching his maiden individual major title at the season-opening Masters.

Last year's World Matchplay winner Dimitri Van den Bergh and Grand Slam of Darts champion Jose De Sousa are both included for their first Premier League seasons, although the young Belgian made a Contender appearance in 2019.

Five-time Premier League champion Michael van Gerwen and two-time winner Gary Anderson will be aiming to regain the trophy in 2021, while new world champion Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Rob Cross and Nathan Aspinall are also included in the field.

Premier League Darts History

The Premier League, a much-loved event for all darts fans and punters, was launched by Sky Sports in 2005 and takes the sport's biggest names all over the UK and Ireland as they compete in a round robin format in a bid to reach the play-offs, when the title is ultimately decided.

The world's top four automatically qualify for the event and are joined by six wildcard selections made by the PDC and Sky Sports to complete a final field.

Unsurprisingly Phil Taylor is the most successful Premier League player of all time having topped the table eight times and going on to lift the trophy on six occasions, while he also went a record 44 games unbeaten from 2005-2008.

James Wade first broke his dominance in 2009 when defeating Taylor's conqueror Mervyn King 13-8 and The Power only won it twice since then, with Gary Anderson (2011 & 2015), Michael van Gerwen (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 2019), Raymond van Barneveld (2014) and Glen Durrant (2020) being the other champions.
