The world number one, who was tournament favourite all along, beat Gary Anderson 10-7 in the last four before seeing off Phil Taylor's conqueror Peter Wright 11-10 in an unforgettable final. But only after Snakebite had missed six match darts to land the biggest prize of his career.

Premier League Darts 2017 Odds

Michael van Gerwen remains Sky Bet's odds-on favourite at 1/2 to defend his Premier League title in 2017 as he heads into the play-offs on the back of topping the regular season table.

He will meet world number two Gary Anderson, who he beat in Birmingham last Thursday to conseign the Scotsman to fourth place, in the semi-finals and you can back him at 2/7 to advance.

Anderson is 11/4 to avenge that defeat while he's 11/2 third favourite behind Peter Wright to become champion for the third time.

Snakebite is 4/1 to land the biggest title of his career ahead of a semi-final meeting with former six-time champion Phil Taylor for which he is 8/15 to win.

The Power is 6/4 to beat Wright and 11/1 to live out a fairytale finish to his final Premier League season before retirement by getting his hands on the trophy for the first time since 2012.

How they qualified?

The world's top four players - Michael van Gerwen, Gary Anderson, Peter Wright and Adrian Lewis - all qualified by right.Six-time Premier League champion Phil Taylor is a wildcard for the first time after dropping down to sixth in the PDC Order of Merit, with fellow former champions James Wade and Raymond van Barneveld also relying on selection as well as tournament regular Dave Chisnall.

Jelle Klaasen makes his return to the competition for the first time since 2009 having consolidated his status inside the world's top 10 during 2016, following up a run to the World Championship semi-finals by reaching the last four at the UK Open and the European Championship quarter-finals.

Belgian star Huybrechts will also make his second Premier League appearance, having previously competed in the 2015 tournament, after reaching three TV quarter-finals during 2016 and the World Cup of Darts semi-finals alongside brother Ronny.Robert Thornton and Michael Smith are the two players from the 2016 line-up who aren't involved this time.

The 10 competing players will face each other once in a league phase over the opening nine Thursday nights but the bottom two throwers in the table following Judgement Night (held in Cardiff on Thursday April 31) will be eliminated.Six more league nights follow, with the remaining eight players facing each other once more before the top four then progress to the play-offs at The O2 in London on Thursday May 19.

Each league match is played over a maximum of 12 legs, with players earning two points for a win (by reaching seven legs) and one point for a draw. The player named on the left in the fixture will throw first in the opening leg but this will be reversed should they meet again.

Premier League Darts History

The Premier League, a much-loved event for all darts fans and punters, was launched by Sky Sports in 2005 and takes the sport's biggest names all over the UK and Ireland as they compete in a round robin format in a bid to reach the play-offs, when the title is ultimately decided.

The world's top four automatically qualify for the event and are joined by six wildcard selections made by the PDC and Sky Sports to complete a final field.

Unsurprisingly Phil Taylor is the most successful Premier League player of all time having topped the table eight times and going on to lift the trophy on six occasions, while he also went a record 44 games unbeaten from 2005-2008.
