Match report
A woeful batting display saw Royal Challengers Bangalore slip to another IPL defeat, losing by 19 runs to Kings XI Punjab.
RCB did well with the ball to restrict Kings XI to just 138-7, but their batting again faltered badly as they were skittled for 119 in 19 overs.
Big-money batsmen Chris Gayle (0), Virat Kohli (6) and Shane Watson (3) all fell for single-figure scores, while AB de Villiers managed only 10, as RCB were bowled out for a fourth time in the tournament.
Axar Patel was Kings XI's standout performer, first scoring an unbeaten 38 off 17 balls, before later taking 3-11 with the ball.
Patel's knock was much needed as Kings XI struggled after being put into bat first, losing openers Hashim Amla (1) and Martin Guptill (9) cheaply.
While Shaun Marsh (20), Manan Vohra (25) and Wriddhiman Saha (21) rebuilt the innings, all were guilty of failing to cash in on strong starts.
Struggling at 119-7 going into their final over, Patel fired Watson for a six and back-to-back fours to lift the Kings XI score.
In reply, Sandeep Sharma (3-22) dismissed the RCB big three of Gayle, Kohli and De Villiers as he bowled through his four-over allocation from the start.
Mandeep Singh batted brilliantly at one end, scoring 46 off 40 balls with five fours and two sixes, but couldn't find support at the other end. By the time that arrived in Pawan Negi (21), Glenn Maxwell (2-15) had bowled Mandeep.
After that dismissal, RCB stumbled to a ninth defeat in 12 games, while Kings XI earned a fifth win in 10 that also sees them lie fifth in the table, three points off Sunrisers Hyderabad in the play-off positions.
