Gareth A Davies expects Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor inside seven rounds

Gareth A Davies, boxing correspondent of the Daily Telegraph, is warning against writing Conor McGregor off ahead of Saturday's fight with Floyd Mayweather.

However despite being a fan of the UFC fighter, he feels he will eventually be worn down by the boxing expertise of his opponent.

He said: "I've long since stopped doubting Conor as I doubted he should fight Nate Diaz the second time and he came through that brilliantly.

"But Shane Mosley, Oscar De La Hoya, Miguel Cotto, Saul Alvarez, Manny Pacquiao, Juan Manuel Marquez - these are all going to be hall of famers in boxing and no-one has made Floyd Mayweather sit on his backside in a fight.

"It's going to be very, very difficult for Conor McGregor when he steps in there.

"There's a caveat - don't write him off completely - but for for me Floyd looks at him for five or six minutes in there, Conor comes forward and tries to do things but finds it difficult to reach Floyd. He starts popping him to the body and the head.

"He'll see openings - I think there will be openings for Floyd - and he'll drop him at some point about round five and I think he'll stop him by seven."
