VAR decisions at Liverpool v Wolves: Skipper Conor Coady says VAR is not working after two decisions at Anfield go against them

Wolves skipper Conor Coady says VAR is "killing" his side after two decisions went against them during their 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.

Liverpool's winner from Sadio Mane was originally ruled out by referee Anthony Taylor, but the video officials gave the reds the goal after rightly ruling that Adam Lallana had used his shoulder and not arm in the build-up.

Wolves, however, believe Virgil van Dijk had also used his hand before playing the ball through, but TV replays were inconclusive on this point.

The visitors were left even further enraged just a few minutes after the initial incident when Pedro Neto's goal was ruled out for a narrow offside call in the build-up, and both decisions left the visiting captain furious.

Coady told Sky Sports that VAR is simply not working: "Massively. For me, it is not working. A lot of people saying they are getting the right results, but I cannot get my head around it. It happened against Man City, but we showed character. I thought we played well today.

"VAR is killing us. It is constantly against us. I don't know where we are going wrong. It is affecting games. No-one likes it. It is still confusing."

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo believes that decisions should not be taken out of the hands of the on-field referees and made via video from miles away.

He told Sky Sports: "Anfield is amazing, but they are celebrating a non-goal. It doesn't make sense. The referees should sustain their decisions. The referees miles away are taking decisions that are happening here."

On a possible handball in the lead-up to Mane's winner, Liverpool defender Virgil Van Dijk said: "It is part of VAR. It is not ideal. What can I say? I won't say much about it. I need to see it back. I can't remember it clearly.

"I just heard there was complaints of handball, I thought it was for Adam (Lallana). What can we do? They made a decision and the goal stood."

Mane added: "I saw the ball hit the shoulder so I know I had scored. Sometimes you are lucky, sometimes unlucky, but that is part of football."
