The curtain-raiser to the County Championship season between MCC and the county champions, traditionally held at Lord's, could next year be played with pink balls under lights in Abu Dhabi, according to MCC's chief executive.
Keith Bradshaw claims MCC are thinking about the changes for next season's opener against Durham.
"It is definitely an option we are considering," Bradshaw said in the Daily Telegraph.
"We're determined to organise some three or four-day cricket under lights using a pink ball and this is a good opportunity.
"It is one of many options, and at an embryonic stage, but we think it would be good for the development of the game.
"Ideally we would like to hold a [trial match] at Lord's but we have certain restrictions using the lights, so there is the possibility of scheduling the match overseas."
Representatives of the ICC Cricket Committee and the MCC World Cricket Committee concluded a meeting in Dubai today where the use of pink balls was discussed.
The agenda also included a workshop on the general landscape of cricket with specific reference to the place of Tests and one-day internationals in the broader context of the game.
They also discussed some some form of Test cricket championship, day-night Tests, rebranding the concept of the Test match game and making the playing regulations more flexible from series to series.
"It was a very productive and interesting meeting held in a good spirit of co-operation," said Clive Lloyd, the chairman of the ICC Cricket Committee.
"The MCC has some great cricketing minds on its committee, people with a huge amount to offer the game. And so do we at the ICC. It was fascinating to hear those views expressed in such a positive and engaging forum as this."
MCC World Cricket Committee chairman Tony Lewis added: "Some of the many things we at the MCC have worked on over the past 12 months - such as a Test match championship, umpire referrals and research into pink balls - we were able to share and express our opinions. It has been an excellent, rewarding workshop that has produced some good ideas."
The observations will be presented to the ICC Chief Executives' Committee at its next meeting in Dubai on November 30 and December 1.
